Default need advice with the dealer repair.

took the car in for tapping from top end, also a knocking sound from bottom. car is 2001 ws6 with a 6 speed. no mod's ok.

talked to service rep friday was told there replacing the #1 pistion, and it would be ready 9/3/02 ok cool .

stoped in there today to pick up car, service rep not in. talk to another rep he pull's up my car in computer look to see there still working on it, see the parts list 16 lifters some gaskets and fluids.

so i told this guy about the #1 pistion. he had no clue to what i was talking about.

ok let me cut thro the chase the car was miss shifted then all this ticking started ect.

i could see one or maybe three lifters a few push rods.

then i started asking about a new motor seeing the car only has 8k on it. guy flat out told me
they {GM} dont replace the motors.

so i asked him if there was someone to call and was also told NO.

the bottom line here is i know i spun a bearing in the lower end i know there was some damage to the top, iknow i miss shifted the car but dam they{GM} froce a shift from 2 to 4th why didnt they lock out 2 so this would'nt happen.

kinda upset about spening 30k to have a rebuilt motor

What dealership did you bring it to?

I can't see why they wouldn't replace it under warranty if there are no mods on the car...

I forgot the name of the group that you can contact about warranty info...I'm sure someone will chime in on that...

You probably floated the valves pretty good w/that missed shift and probably bent pushrods, and probably a few valves...

The worst that could of been done to the bottom end would be that the valve might have cracked the piston...I couldn't see spinning a bearing though...

I don't think you have anything to worry about. You say you did the infamous 4 to 2 shift. That mechanically over reved the engine. All that did was bend a pushrod or two. Never heard of anyone spinning a rod or main bearing just from a missed shift on a bone stock engine.

Let them change out the pushrods.

If it does indeed have a spun bearing, they will realize that after they put it back togather.

Driving the car with a spun bearing will destroy the crankshaft over a very short period of time, and let me tell you; They will [NOT] replace the crank at the dealership. You will get a new crate motor if that is the case. I am still willing to bet you have not spun a rod or crank bearing.

well it would be great if there where any pushrods or valves on the parts list.

all there replacing is the lifters kinda confused with that.

granted maybe i didnt spin a bearing.

SEMA is the sight that can help IF you have mods done to the car. They help prove aftermarket mods ( some, not all ) don't cause damage. FWIW.

Not sure of the group that BIGBOS mentioned. I can tell you the dealer MUST bring in the zone rep to determine if you need a new engine or not. I know because i just went through it.

I dooon't think that they would replace a motor for a little damage here and there. You have to really, i mean REALLY, mess something up, and a lot of stuff, do replace a whole motor.

Viper thats the group I was talking about..

I forgot about the mod thing....if you have mods on your car the dealership would have to prove that the certain modification caused that certain damage, etc...

Sorry, you're right, they won't replace the motor on simple damage. I had an oil pump fail. They are refusing to replace it ( the engine that's blown ).

Due to the fact this will become legal, I'm not going to get into what will happen from here as GM may troll the boards.

Of course it's BS. I'm beyond at this point

You should contact the Better Business Bureau in your area. This will make the dealer and GM change their song. I did it a few years ago and got another car!!!!!

i just love people like you who cant drive and then bring the car in and expect the dealer to replace the whole motor in stead of the valve train parts the you messed up...it is people like you that put the dealers on the defense for people who have legit warrenty issues
