Default Oil pressure Guage

Not sure this belongs here but it has to do with oil. I am looking at the Autometer Oil pressure guage to install on my car. I know the stock one works fine but my navigator needs to be able to read it also. Has anyone tried installing one of these in the LS1 yet. I have heard that you cant disconnect your stock one, but I dont know if this is true. Any help would be appreciated. If this is in the wrong section, sorry.

I installed one a few weeks ago. It's easy. I got the Phantom 2-1/6" gage and a black mounting cup. Mounted it on the flat part of the steering column where the turn signal goes in.

There a plate right above the oil filter that unbolts. This is where the C5's get their oil temp from. You'll have to drill & tap the part on the F-body but it's no big deal. If you have stock cats, you'll have to remove the driver's side one to get at it. I tapped it with 1/8-27 NPT threads. The sending unit will interfere with the stock cat so I had to cobble together some fittings to move it about 3-4" forward. Used teflon tape on everything and I have zero leaks.

Run the signal and ground wires through the firewall using the supplied grommet. I ran the 12v wire to the instr. panel power fuse and the light to the IP dimmer fuse. Grounded the light to a metal brace under the steering column.
Good luck!

Sorry, no pics of my setup but I basically copied off of this guy's setup on his Monte Carlo conversion. Pic of relocated sending unit

Here's his website: LS1 Monte Carlo SS conversion

He describes installing the sending unit in the August section.
