Default H/C install quote

I was recently quoted $4,800 for a heads/cam install by a shop who will remain nameless. Does this price seem about right? Even at $100/hr that equates to 48 hours.

Just wondering from you guys who have paid to have this work done

Thanks,

Russ

I would hope that included the heads and the cam.

ROTFLMAO!

I have heard of the guys at FAStech down here knocking out a HC install in a 1/2 day or less. $4800 might have been the heads and cam with install.

Nope,

Just the labor. Total for the package was ~$8,000.

Its maybe 8-16 hours labor tops going by shop times (you and a buddy could do it in less time if you knew what you were doing). That price they quoted probably includes the parts too. If it doesnt, that is one messed up shop.

In case it's important, the quote was for the Stage II H/C on a bone stock 98 F-bod.

Parts, $3500
Labor, $800
Custom tuning, $500

Some shops either don't know how hard it is so they just make up insane times to cover their ***, or they are actually trying to take advantage of you. one or the other.

That's kind of what I thought. Parts are $3,250 per the website, so that means ~$4,750 for labor and I don't know if it includes tuning. Maybe it sounded like I didn't know what I was talking about but I specifically asked for "The price of parts and installation for the stage 2 H/C package on a 98 WS6."

Maybe I'll try back later when someone who actually knows there stuff is there.

I was definitely shocked but I played it cool because I didn't want to offend the guy. The thing is, this is a major speed shop with a ton of experience and awesome references. Maybe he was just giving me the blow off not thinking I was serious.

I don't know. Anyhow, when I actually buy the car I'll pursue it further. I've got to sell this vette soon, I'm really itching to get the WS6.

Was it MTI? I think they quoted me like $7,000 a while ago for stage 2 heads/cam, torque converter, and install.
Maybe House of Speed? They wanted $600!!!!! to install my headers!!!

I am glad that I will be entering this career field soon. I will be attending the School of Automotive Machinists in a few months. I don't plan on taking advantage of anyone! I have been taken advantage of before, but if someone wanted to pay me that, I wouldn't turn it down!!!

I think that price is a little off the walls....

A cam only install for me done by speed inc. last year was $1200 bucks....$350 for cam, $300 for install, then another $600 for valvetrain components..

I am now having Speed Inc. put a set of heads on the car along w/a new cam...I ordered their RGR S2 heads 2.02/1.57 valves for $1700 bucks...and another extra $100 to have them milled...so thats $1800 for heads, $239 for GM head gaskets and bolts, the cam I got from MTI, and $1000 total for install....so my total price is floating around in the $3300 dollar range...

I would give speed inc. a call....the RGR heads have been proven...

A person who has them that I know made 402rwhp and 390rwtq with a 224 cam.... through a auto w/ an unlocked 4400 converter....
