Default 383+59cc AFR 205's, which cam? Pat-G, Predator.

Like my other thread said. I am building a 383 for my 02 Z06. I was doing some math on Piano's sight and came up with this combo. I just need the right cam to match my 59cc AFR heads. I am kind of stuck with the parts I have right now so the only flexability I have is with the head gasket and the piston dish. It is either -2cc or -7cc and .040-.054 compressed thickness.

If I go with a -7cc dish and a .040 Cometic I can run these below cams.

XER/LSK LSK has more lift but does not change the DCR
236/240 .602/.609 114+4 SCR=11.8 DCR=8.85
238/242 .605/.610 114+4 SCR=11.8 DCR=8.77
240/244 .609/.612 114+4 SCR=11.8 DCR=8.68
244/248 .612/.615 114+4 SCR=11.8 DCR=8.52

If I go with a -2cc and .054 gasket I can only run

244/248 with a SCR of 12.15 and a DCR of 8.76.

From what I have read 8.8 DCR is all 93 octane can handle. I have also only gone with a 4* split because that seems to be what AFR runs on their cam specs. If there is a better split let me know. I would be willing to go with a custom cam but I am not good enough to spec one out. This car will be a daily driver for now. I have ran cams in the past up to 242 with TPI technology and that was about all I was willing to handle in a DD. I am sure more can be done with tuning now. I know there are guys DDing the same size cams in 346's. Any help would be great.

239/244 .649/.612 111+2 LSA unless this is a drag car

It kinda depends what your pistons deck height will be and with 7cc, .040 or .045 gaskets, ~ 11.7x SCR and 8.7ish DCR (will run on premium)

Predator. It looks like a cross between the LSK on the intake and XER on the exhaust except it would have to be a 240 not 239 on the intake. Would that make much difference? With the tight LSA I am assuming this thing will be pretty choppy and not make much vacuum. Is that an accureat statement? How will the drivability be? I have only run 114+4 cams in LSx platforms. And one last question. With all the bolt ons except the 90/90 do you see this thing making over 475rwhp? Thanks.

I agree with Mark (Predator-Z). You need to open your mind to running cams with narrower LSAs and less advance. The longer stroke of a 383 will not need quite as narrow of an LSA as a 346 so a 111 or 112LSA will work better in that lobe range. Also, you need to use a 51 degree ramp rate for LSK lobes and 50 degrees for XE-Rs. Even though Comp lists them as 50 and 49 degrees respectively, they are not that fast in reality. When you input actual Cam Doctor numbers, you'll be surprised how much your actual DCR takes a plunge.

Thanks Patrick. So you do agree with Predator on that perticular cam and the specs? Do I need to tell comp about the ramp rates as well? I emailed you and PM'ed you about this combo. I was looking to have you spec me out some stuff so I can go through Thunder for my needs. So PM me if you can help me with the rest of my questions in the PM/email. Thanks.

OK. So the final cam specs taking both opinions should be 240/244 .649/.612 112+2. With LSK intake lobes with a 51* ramp rate and XER exhaust lobes with a 50* ramp rate. Do the cam guru's agree this cam is best suited to my combo? I am placing my order tomorrow. Thanks.
