I got a TH400 to run all this power through.....

I would still like to hear more on GTP's, who is using them, what kind of results, etc...

I would like to hear the same from the ARE guys..

this is my ARE set up. stage 1 heads. paid $150 extra to have 5.3 heads.paid another $150 to get stage2 porting.i never recieved a flow sheet that was promised like 4-5 times, but nick told me they flowed around the high 290cfm on the intake & i think he said 230's on the exhuast. i have the 918 springs & running 11.1:1 compression.i have not dynoed the car yet, but i can tell u it has the *****. i took it to the track in 95 degree humid weather. the car ran a 12.0 on the brakes @ 110mph(this was bracket racing & i went home packing).it ran a 12.2 @ 116mph the prev. run with a passenger not coming out of the whole hard(3.5K)on a trial run.this is how bad my stock clutch is, the other day on F1's i was coming home & was at a light.the road was flat. i reved the car to 3k & let it out at the green, the car rolled slowely forward & the tach went up to 4k & the car just sat there for a second.it finally grabbed & went. i hope with a good clutch, skinnies,& LS1 edit with dyno tuning in some nice weather the car will be in the 11.5-1.6 range.my other friend had ARE stage 1 heads with the B1 cam. he was running 11.7's around 115mph. he got ed wright tuning & went to skinnies & ran a 11.4 @ 121mph.i got my heads in april so i don't know if i have the new head design. the cars race weight was about 3600lbs. i plan to take around 250-300 lbs. off the car in the future to hopefully get me in the low 11's. i like nick's heads & i would hope more of his costumers would give u there info or maybe nick himself would chime in.i am also using a little T1 cam.

I think people should know that valve size is not what determines if heads are matched to engine combo or not. Port volume of intake and exhaust is what determines hit or miss of ported heads for your combo. Flow management is key,if low lift flow is sacrificed to gain at high lift than usually this means large port volume and a less usable range of power making from combo. Valve sizes are a consideration for bore clearance and valve shrouding, but you cant have too much valve for flow into cylinder, only too much port size. Make sense?

I have ARE truck heads 5.3L (2.02/1.57 valve, 10.8:1 comp) on my ARE 360 motor with old style 226/234 cam.

I am making 400RWTQ and over ~400RWHP with huge torque and HP spread. (4.11s in the 12 bolt, 17 inch rims, MAC headers etc) over 400RWHP from 5500rpm to 6800rpm.

Car ran traction limited 11.7@122.6mph through an automatic. Looking to hit ~124mph through the M6 if the stock clutch will hold up.

Car runs like a raped ape.

changes over the winter include lightweight hood and battery, larger cam (probably in the 232/232 range) some chassis changes and hopefully ~125-126mph when all is said and done in good fall DA.

Cheers,
Chris

Thanks for the replies guys...

I'm most likely going to buy a set of used MTI heads that are around my local area..

Ive posted this before, and people ignore it and still get the ARE's, then a month or so later i see a post about poor dyno or track results. While I don't have heads and cam yet, I think TEA is the most impressive for the results. I plan to talk with TEA soon.

I'd also consider GTP, JPR, and MTI.

If your determined to get ARE heads, get the cam ARE suggests and set it up exactly as they say otherwise your asking for a mismatched package.

If emissions are an issue be sure and ask if the big 226/234 and up size cams ARE often recommends will pass...

I think I am going to buy a set of MTI used heads locally, I am going to have them looked over by a speed shop...

I think that would be a good match...MTI heads, with my MTI "X1" cam that I recently got...

I have a set of ARE 2.08/1.60 truck heads. Compression is in the 11.5:1-11.7:1 range. Although I have never gotten a good dyno number, because of crap happening, I have run 11.84 @116 in a 3700lb car with 4.10s in warm weather and high humidity. I also have a rather large split duration cam and 2 year old Ed Wrong tuning, which sucks.

If you want some good head info, give Thunder Racing a call. They have an in house flow bench and have flowed several different heads. They also sell GTP heads which have prduced some bad *** numbers both on the dyno and on the track.

Tim

I've had several iterations of ARE Stage 2 2.08/1.60 heads (with ARE-selected cams, 1-3/4 Grots, Vig. 3000 and Yank 4400 torque converters, etc.)

Summary ~
Dyno: 375-385 rwhp, similar torque
Track (ET Streets, full weight): low 12s to a best of 11.80, with a tenth or more still "in it"; mph around 115; 60' from 1.64 to 1.8
