Default Cam Selection

Opinion question..Looking for some one to point me in the right direction....

I'm going to be running valve job/ported 243 heads..... It's 02 LS1...

Looking for a low duration high-lift cam for driveability reasons....

Looking for 226-228 Intake and 228-232ish exhaust side with around .600 lift for both....

Any recommendations??

TR224 is kind of a low lift for heads isn't it.....Why have heads if you're not going to take advantage of the better flow at much higher lift?

The TSP 228R is the one I have been eyeing....Good to see someone mentioned it.

That one looks almost perfect....I wonder how bad the ramp rate is though.

I would say maybe a 224/230 .615/.635 113.

I have run a variation of that cam, and decided to try and go turbo...but that didnt work out, so I swapped again to the 244/248 which is far from what you are looking for.

But that 224/230 on a 114 is pretty stealthy. -1° overlap will still have some "lopiness" to it, but will be a good DD cam as well.

how does a negative overlap sound as compared to a positive? i figured it would be less lopey but i figured i would ask.

Well I will put it this way.

A 199/207 .472/.479 117 has -31° of overlap. That is a stock 97-00" cam.

You decide.

Who sells this cam? Looks almost perfect as well. 114 would be preferred.

most cam companys can grind a cam to your spec.....just know what your asking for before you ask for it.....

Which cam? The 224/230 .615/.635 113?
I just pulled some specs together. That would end up being a custom grind.

However......There is a 224/230 .581/.588 114.

That is the current cam that is in my Z28. Love it, can't keep tires on the car. It is pretty stout off idle really. Mine is set around 950'ish.

Im a big fan of the comp 224/228 112lsa, nice driveable power, would be very nice with heads, although mine is "cam only"
