Default REV-1116 Springs

I recieved mine today from A & A Corvette Specialties and since there is barely any information on the boards about them, I thought I would take some pics and post them.

My car is going to start getting pulled apart here in a few hours and I will try to remember to take some more pictures throughout the install.

Default Re: REV-1116 Springs

update: got the 1st spring installed this evening during my cam install(spent an hour looking for a keeper that fell in between the header tubes!) I have the snap-on spring compressor and It does not compress the inner spring, making it relatively difficult to do spring installation by yourself. Other than that and breaking off an AIR tube bolt, it has been pretty straight forward so far.

I have been taking pictures throughout the install and will resize and post them whenever I'm done.

Hey I just got these myself. They look like a good solution. True Double that fits in stock seat. No one knows about them is right, I would have never known either if I hadnt needed new valves I would have never called rev. Great people to work with, they also have a billet timing chain for the ls1 as well.

I thought "billet" meant it was cut from a solid piece of metal, rather than melted and cast. How do you make a billet timing chain??

We received a set of these a little while ago as well, and we're going to see how they hold up. I'm just glad to see a stock-replacement spring with a dampener!

well. After 8 grueling hours, I have 8 springs installed. If you are going to put these springs on an f-body with the heads on the car, make sure your spring compressor will compress BOTH springs. Mine did not so We have absolutely exhausted ourselves with the passenger side today. Hopefully the driver's side will be easier tomorrow. Other than that, so far so good with the springs. I am hoping to get the car fired up tomorrow evening, but it may not be until sunday that I get to do so.

got the other 8 springs done today in about 2 hours. (driver's side is SO much easier, plus we weren't tired from working all day long). Got everything put back together, no leaks, cam fired right up. I need to drill the TB blade, but other than that it is all good. Sounds pretty damn mean as well... 224/224 .581/.581 112LSA through FLP's, ORP's, and an open cutout before the axle.

I think I'll get these springs, too. Keep us updated on them! BTW, what brand spring compressor will compress both springs?

I'm not sure which one will... I KNOW the snap-on compressor will not though. We ended up using a small peice of metal to grab ahold of the inner spring so it would crank down along with the larger spring. We only used this method on the back 4 springs on each side as it was very flakey and liked to come out, shooting a small spring out the bottom of the compressor across the shop. On the front 4 springs on each side, one person would push down on the compressor while another person would install the keepers. This worked out well as long as you have 2 people there to do it.

ALSO, If you have an 01 or 02 car and you are installing these springs into. I would purchase new valve stem seals from GM. Early 01's seem to be fine, but midway in that year they changed from a 2 peice to a 1 peice design. It never hurts to be safe though.

Mine had the later design (I found this out after I had gotten the first spring off) so I had to make a rush trip to the dealership and spend 35 bucks on valve stem seals!

The part numbers for the needed peices are:
12533586 - 98-01 Exhaust Valve Seals
12457652 - 98-01 Intake Valve Seals

Can you give us some spring specs:

1. Seat pressure at x install height
2. Spring Rate (lbs/inch)
3. Open pressure at x lift
4. Overall Lift rating.
5. Coil Bind

Thanks!

Mike

mikey:

I'm really not sure about all the spring specs. I know it installs at stock height (1.80" i believe?) and is supposed to be good for .620" lift and 7000 rpm. The guy that I bought mine from andy@aandacorvette.com may be able to help you more with the questions you are asking.

Xaon: glad to see your progress with your installation. I can sympathize with you on changing the rear passenger side springs. What a PITA.
Here's some info about the spring kit. The 1116 springs will setup @1.840" with the supplied spring base and seat pressure will be 130lbs. Open pressures range from 340-380lbs depending on lift. The springs will handle up to .620" lift safely providing the valve tip height location is at the stock measurement of 2.00". This is measured from the tip of the valve stem to the pad location on the head. (Be sure to remove all shims and spring bases before measuring). The retainers have been engineered to allow a taller installed height and still clear the underside of the rocker arms hence no grinding to provide clearance.
As far as compressing the springs, I'm working on a slick idea that would incorporate a tool using a stud screwed into the rocker arm boss. (So many things to do, so little time to do them). Also, thanks for pointing out the issue with the later one piece valve seals.
If you have any questions or comments, feel free and contact me.

Cheers,
Richard

Thanks for the information Richard. The whole time we were putting in springs, I was thinking about a tool probably very similar to what you are thinking about It sure would have made it much nicer and I DAMN sure would've purchased one had it been available!

So far, so good. I heat cycled them 3 times and since then I've put about 70 miles on the springs so far with 10 or so WOT runs up to 6600. Everything is still sounding and running right.

I bought these springs/titanium retainers/hardened spring seats as a package from andy over at aandacorvette.com for $289. The individual parts are listed on his website, but I had to email him about the package deal. (I think you end up saving about 30-40 bucks buying it as a package).

So far I have been VERY pleased with them... as has my right foot. But only time will tell.
