ls1 motorsports forged piston set.....
I was wanting to know what it would take to put the set of forged pistons with stock rods in my car. I know the block has to be honed .005, can it be done by leaving the crank in the car and then after it is honed throwing the rods in there? or do I have to tear everything apart? thanks any info would be appreciated

There was a thread a little bit ago discussing this. With the ybody, the engine can be left in and pistons changed without problems. With the fbody, it can still be done with the engine still in, but I believe it involved a bit more cursing <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

To each his own, but...
By the time you get the motor torn down in the car to the point that you could pull the pistons out, there really isn't much more involved in yanking it out.
Do it right and pull the motor out.
Also, to properly hone it .005 over, it will need to be completely disassembled and taken to a machine shop to be done. I wouldn't want to install a new set of pistons without having the entire rotating assembly rebalanced, either.

I must of typed it wrong I am not trying to put a set of pistons while the motor is in the car, I know I am going to have to pull the motor. My question was what has to be done to have them put in? I know the block has to be honed .005, does the motor have to be completely disassembled to do this? If so, what has to be done to put the bottom end back together? rebalencing, new bearings, do the mains need to have better bolts put in, ect...?

OK, I just go the wrong impression when you asked about leaving the crank in the car...
Anyway, yes, it will need to be completely disassembled/machined/cleaned/reassembled. I would have someone knowledgable(sp?) look over the main and rod bearings to determine what kind of shape they're in. It would be best to go ahead and replace them while you're there. Balancing is not 100% necessary, but there's no way I wouldn't have it done. The stock main bolts are fine, but I would recommend replacing the rod bolts with either ARP's or Katech's. They can be had fairly inexpensively.
So, to answer your question, unfortunately it's not a simple swap to a set of forged pistons. There is a good bit of work involved.
