Default More power from boost or compression?

I am going to strap some ***** on the C5 pretty soon but want to do the best for the money. I was thinking ATI w/ heads for @500+RW. My question is should I run 6-7psi which is what they say safe max is on stock heads. OR get the 6L heads since they drop compression 7 tenths. That would let me run another 2-3lbs wouldn't it? I think the boost and head design would make more power than the stock head and lower boost. What is so weak on these motors. My stock Lighting motor holds 16psi no problems and it is a stinking F*rd?

There are a ton of arguments for this one.

If you want to do FI correctly, drop in a set of low compression forged pistons, rods, good rod bolts, head studs, ATI D1SC, 42-50# injectors, inline booster or high volume intank pump, and a lot of tuning should throw you in the 600 range conservatively.

Your lightening is set up for that and should have forged pistons. That is what you realy need inyour car to be safe. most of the time they will tell you that the lower boost like I believe arond +-6 is safe on a stock motor. I was told any thing higher is not good for a stock motor. But go to the forced induction forum and ask there.

Well yeah, that HP level is going to be hard on the pistons but you have the right idea. Going with more boost and less compression will give you more power. So that's not abad idea, but if you want more power you'll need to go to dished pistons and just go from there

Thanks for the fast responses. I saw the internal/external forums guess I'll scroll for the forced, LOL. I like the sound of H/C but the driveablilty and power band is an issue. The L pulls from the line to 5400RPM. Most 230/237 cam dyno sheets are under 300hp at 3500rpm! I love that roll on power and torque. I can get the P1SC kit at cost @5K. I can't afford to many extra toys right now. Should have sold one of them (0). Maybe I'll go H/C since the S/C the way I want would be $$$. Thing is everybody and their dog has H/C between 400-440rwhp, I want the sleeper clean idle with 500rwhp. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

I am up on the Magnacharger. Anything LPE you bend over for, it is a low end performer because the Eaton roots blower is not efficient high RPM. You have to buy a high rise hood to clear it which is over a grand painted. A few are on the street already with only 400rwhp. I can get that for under half price. The ATI is cheaper, intercooled, and made for high RPM power, fits under stock hood. The Eaton also runs out of cfm when you do heads and cam under it. We buy Eatons for the L's for 600 bucks LPE charges like 7K for his kit. Thanks for the suggestion but it doesn't meet my power needs.

denzSSis correct.... doing it right is the key. .. Buying a blower and strapping it on, or doing it right and be done.... just depends how much $$$ you can burn... by the way... those lightnings are good looking and quick as all hell....
