ls1 350 vs 346
All LS1 engine displacements are identical.
97-98
99-00 (valve cover bolt pattern changes on heads) also undocumented QA parts changes in LS1, different PCM programming, and smaller injectors, better overall engines then 97-98
01-03 LS1 gets 6.0 liter truck cam. (pre cats are used on the C5 for all 50 states) LS1 gets LS6 intake manifold, and LS6 clutch, LS6 cast iron exhaust manifolds, LS6 MAF sensor, and beginning in late 01 production (at least for C5's) the short block assembly is LS6 except for LS6 cam of course.

The LS1s all start life at 346 CI regardless of year.
Your '98 has a slightly different cam, pistons, intake manifold, and exhaust manifolds than an '02 LS1, for instance. It also has an EGR system which an '01-'02 does not (this is made posssible by the cam change.)
Stock for stock, an '02 makes more power than a '98. Maybe 20 HP more. Of course, it's easy to change a few parts to fix that. <img border="0" alt="[Burnout]" title="" src="graemlins/burnout.gif" />
