Default Cam Install questions

Car only has 8000 miles on it.Do I need to put in new timing gears & chain or just the chain. Which brand for the chain? Is GM original equipment OK?
Since my car is a 98 & they've been known to have their oil pumps quit from time to time,I think I'm going to change it while I'm in there. What brands do you recommend & why.....Pressure, Volume or just plain reliability?

I went with the Jwiss-Katech chain and their blueprinted oil pump just to be safe.My car has 12K and my stock oil pump is great but "Hey,why take a chance." In a week or so it will be installed.

Thanks JFM. Just did a search & found your setup is pretty common.

The search did bring up another question though.
When using the magnets to hold the lifters up during the cam install, how do you get the magnets off the lifters once the cam is back in? Wouldn't the lifters pull out of thier bores when you pull on the magnets or does somethimg stop them from pulling out? I've never seen the inside of a LS1.
