Anyone else toy around with this one? If so, what spring /rod combo did you go with? What kind of tuning hell did you/they go through to get a good idle (A4)? Did anyone use it with a set of ASA LS1 heads? Sorry for all the ?`s but there is just something about the factory GM performance parts (and prices) that gets the little mod on my shoulder all excited! There is something reassuring about them for some reason. It`s probably just my insecurities about tearing into a new car with such little knowledge of these LS1`s workings. Don`t get me wrong, I do my homework. Hell, I study this (and other LS1 related sites) like I have a friggin` exam coming up! And it`s not my first "Hot Rod" either. I guess the bottom line here is that I`m looking to go 11.50`s to 11.90`s in a toy (i.e. not daily driven) car as cheap and as reliably as I can. I completely understand the amount of R&D that the after market companies put into these awsome parts we have available to us today. But there is just something comforting with the thought of using performance parts designed specifically for LS1`s and made by the same company who produced this KILLER motor in the first place! Sorry for the long boring post, but I`m just burned out with all these choices/decisions, and I`ve been again. Feel free to flame away. I deserve it.
Quick use of the search function turned up all kinds of stuff on this cam.
The specs are 226/236 .525/.525 110 LSA
This cam will have a rough idle. It would take some tuning to get it to idle without surging. Although it has alot of duration, it has a VERY low lift which won't take full advantage of ported heads. However, that lift would be fine for stock heads.
IMO, there are definitely better choices out there. I'd go with a single pattern cam or even a reverse split cam for NA performance.

I use this cam but I have an M6. I'm going to get tuning done wednesday. I've been running the cam for well over a month now and there have been no idle or drivability problems whatsoever. I actually kind of wish I went even bigger. I plan on getting some GMPP CNC ported LS6 heads next year. Peak lift is right at .525 so I think it's matched up pretty well. I didn't go for a bigger lift because I really don't want the chance of snapping valve springs. I also don't want to change them every 15-20k miles. Right now I am running comp cams hardened push rods and a set of 941 springs. I think the 941's in this setup are a great bargain. They did have breakage problems but only on high lift cams so people are ditching them cheap. I like the cam alot.

Thanks for the response guys. I agree with Colonel that .525 isn`t much lift and probably would not pair well with say a Stage II ported LS1/LS6 head, but I wonder about a milled 5.3 head with like a Stage I CNC job? The increased comp. might help the idle. Anyone else have some input? Hey Jason, did you ever do a before/after dyno run? Thanks again guys.
I'll have a dyno on wednesday or thursday or next week. That will be after tuning. I don't have a before run but these are my mods... Grots, lid, true dual, asa cam. Thats it for performance mods. The GM heads flow something like 295 at .525 however. I think for the piece of mind of nothing breaking, and the awesome midrange torque I can deal with a little less of a peak.

I'll be anxious to hear the results. Have you had it to the track?
...Idles and drives great? With no surging, hunting, or stalling whatsoever? Hot starts are fine too? That's surprising for a cam with a total duration of 462 on a 110 LSA. Sounds like alot of overlap to me.

Yea, keep us posted with your dyno #`s. I`m close to you in the mod dept. Lid, Hooker LT`s w/ off road Y & a Yank PT4000 or a Vig 3600 will be going in this winter. If I could get close to my ET goals with a cam install (rather than a whole HC deal) I`d be all about it!

one of my buddies who has a cammed LT1 on a spirited 50-130 jaunt and lost by a couple cars. The cammed LT1 is probably putting down 340rwhp or so.
On a similar speed run, I beat that same cammed LT1 by a few cars in my car when I had just bolt ons putting down 363rwhp/372rwtq with 3.73 gears.

No surging or hunting at all. Warm starts can be interesting. But do remember I am in the extreme heat of Phoenix. Warm starts aren't awful but you do have to help it stay running for about 10 seconds or so. Everyone told me it wouldn't run without programming, and the drivability would absolutly suck. I think people are scared of big cams like this. I might end up trying the new GM cam that is really big on a 106 lsa... I should have dyno numbers next wednesday or thursday. I will be sure to post them..
