With 27k miles you can certainly change to synthetic motor oil. Redline recommends at least 2000 miles of break-in on a new engine with dyno oil before switching to Redline. Other synthetics may differ - as evidenced by some factory cars coming with Mobil 1. As far as the trans and rear diff go, you can go to synthetics as soon as you want. It may cause a longer breakin period, but they will break in eventually regardless of the fluid. I generally go at least 2000-3000 miles on the trans, diff before switching to synthetic, but that's just me.
Edit: Oh yeah, I'm a loyal Redline user and would recommend the following of their products - 10W-30 in the engine, D4ATF in the A4, and 75W-90 in the rear.
