Default Pulling the engine out question.

Well, my friend and I are taking his entire engine out to drop the pan and look for the mysterious 'knock' on the bottom end. My question is;
1)Do i need to take off the starter.. looks like just one ground and a electrical 4 pin connector.
2)Is it easier to pull the pins out of the mounts or just take off the 4 bolts on each side?
3)should we go ahead and take the lifters and the cam out now?? or since we are going to be working on the bottom is it ok to leave them in?
4)any thing else to be aware of ?

we are down the the block and are about to drop the tranny (T56) and soon after i think she's ready to come out. any thing to watch out for any thing to make our lives easier.. thanks in advance.

thanks
Devin.

1)Yes, take off the starter it'll get hung up on something when you jack the engine out.

2)It was easier for me to take the mounts off the block completely.

3)If you just plan on pulling the caps off the crank then yes, you can leave the cam and lifters in.

BTW-you could've pulled the engine out with the heads still on the engine. Unless you were searching for the knock on the top end and wound up having to go further <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Thanks JC_1 -
we most likely will just drop the pan and the caps.. hmmm, i guess we may go ahead and pull the cam and lifters as well.

Thanks for the input.
Devin.
