Default Used cam okay to buy??

I found a nice deal on a cam I want that's got 10,000 miles on it. Do these things wear out? Should I spend twice as much on a new one?

I've heard of the outer hard layer coming off of a bad batch of hotcams (they weren't heat treated) but that's about it for LS1s. The LS1 has roller tipped lifters which cause VERY little wear on the camshaft. Most likely the cam is fine. If it isn't you'll be able to easily see it. I once had the cam sprocket bolts back out allowing the cam to walk which fubared my cam and most of the lifters. Barring something rare like that the cam in question should be just as good as new.

Thanks Colonel, that's what I needed to know. This one is a Lunati. I'll make sure to look at it good. Thanks
