Default Which block would you use?

OK, got a probelm, well not really a problem just need to make a decision lol. I currently have a 5.3 block with oil pan, 241 heads etc etc that I have been working on. I was planning on boring it out to 3.898 to accept LS1 pistons, putting some block filler in it and going to town with my twin turbo setup. I sitll need to get a camaro oil pan to fit my 69, get a pickup for it, and need coil packs. Well a buddy of mine is abandoning his project, and offered to sell me an LS1 block with mains, oil pan, and pickup, also including the coil packs with wiring harness for $300. Think I should use the LS1 block or stick with the iron? Yes the big answer is 6.0, but not right now, I have an experiment going with the 5.7 size. So..watcha think?

Ya, the motor had a bent rod but no other visible damage. He was going to rebuild the whole thing but scrapped the whole project in favor of a new car and is selling the rest off. I think my choice is obvious but wanted opinions. I'll pay near that price for just the pan/pickup and coils.

For $300 you can not go wrong getting that LS1 motor. Hell the coil packs and wiring harness is worth that much!

Ya that was my thinking lol. How strong are they without main girdles? I'll probably end up putting one in it anyway but just wondering

One word sticks out in your original Post.. "TURBO".. may want to consider your final engine setup .. IRON maybe better for your Turbo setup, but the LS1 will work also depending on how much you are pumping.

Plans are around 750-800rwhp on full race boost setup. street setup around 600-650. The aluminum block should hold fine at that level
