Default 1.8 rockers and TR230 cam

Has anybody done this?
TR don't recommend it, can anyone say why?
I know tht you would have cut valve reliefs but what other problems might there be?

With 1.7 rockers 577/562 lift
With 1.8 rockers 611/595 lift

Find out whose lobes are on that cam like if they are XER Comp. lobes. and call Comp. Camsabout using higher ratio rockers, it may(will) change spring usage though.

Heads have been machined for larger diameter double valve springs.

If that cam has ramp rates like the X1 MTI cam then you can rest assured that if your valve guides are stock that they'll fail rather quickly...these cams have such high fast lift that it just eats the factory guides...I was gonna go w/the X1 cam w/stock heads untill I can afford to get a set like I want but Chris @ MTI told me he highly recommends not using that cam on stock heads period.

Dunno if that helps, but it's all I know.

The issues will be ramp up speed, lift on the springs, valve guides, and valve clearance to pistons. Without pretty good modified heads, the heads will not last long.

Changing the ratio does not only affect lift, but how quickly the valves open; ramp up speed. Because the valve opens faster, there can be issues with piston to valve clearance. This means that the valve is moving down faster than the psiton. Not good <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />

The next big issue would be coil bind with the springs. For a lift of 0.611", you will need at least double springs. Most double springs have some amount of coil bind about 0.610" to 0.625" of lift. Going with a double spring with diameter 1.550", there is less coil bind, but more machining is needed on the head.

With the faster ramp up speed, the valve guides will need to be upgraded bronze to handle the faster moving valves.

A better opition for rocker arms would be the Jesel 1.7 ones.
