Default Bottom of Fast 90 intake cracked??

Has anyone seen this. Ive been having problems tuning the car recently. I was at my speed shop today and they informed me that if you are running stock valley cover bolts that they could crack the bottom of the intake when you bolt it down.

He showed me one off another car, their very small cracked but their there. You can see the indentation of the bolt heads also.

According to them fast now gives you replacement bolts with shorter heads.

Has anyone else had this? If so when did you buy your intake. I bought mine May 2005 and it did not come with these new bolts.

FAST have always included the lower profile cap screws with the intakes. They also make specific mention of this in their instructions.

Yes it will crack the bottom of the intake manifold. I work at RPM I just did a H/C and Fast 90/90 intake and the bolts should have been in the box with the intake. They are black and have a allen head not a flat bolt but close.

Yes you have to install the button head valley cover bolts that come with the manifold and are mentioned in the instructions. If you didnt install them than more than likely you have a cracked lower manifold. Thats what happens when youre a real man and dont read instructions, lol. I learned to start reading instructions when i buy **** a while ago.

I know for a fact they did not supply me with the bolts. I bought it brand new and dont remember anything even in the instructions. Oh well i guess i now know what that loud *** crack noise was. The wierd thing is it didnt idle bad and the tune was fine after the install. Its now that ive had it off a 2nd time that im having issues. Brad i think you followed my melted spark plug thread. Maybe i found the culprit. Cracked intake causing leak and causing a few cylinders to run really lean. What do you think?

Yep, have seen a few people crack theirs as well. I bought a box of those button head allen bolts if you need a set and can't get them from FAST.

Same here, I bought a FAST 90 used, so I had to replace some of the install kit myself. I have about 40 spare button head screws (need 10 per install).

Very possible if the manifold was leaking

Just happen to have a FAST I am setting up on the work bench right now. In front is the "as supplied" button head screw that you get from FAST. I bought all new stainless hardware for the FAST and the bag shows the replacements I plan to use. If you go to the FAST web site, you can download the instructions and on the last page is a hardware list.

Thanks for bringing this up, I'm about to buy a FAST 90. It's always these little things that cause big tuning problems.

See the 10 black button head screws on the plate right in the middle? Thats them. Easy swap. Just gotta make sure you torque em properly.

Why would you need to torque those bolts? They're not load bearing in any way.

true i just tighten by hand, but my hand is like a torque wrench now, lol. You dotn need to torque them perfect buy if you over due them you can strip out the blocks threads. That goes for any bolt hole in the aluminum block.

Are the holes that the button heads go into blind holes?
