new cam extremely tight in new block, whats wrong?
I started installing my new camshaft into my new ls6 block from texas speed today and I noticed that the cam bearings look like they had been rough honed, is this normal? As I was installing the cam everything was good till I got to the 4th cam bearing then it got really difficult to go any further, after pulling it out several times I decided to give it a couple of taps with the rubber mallet, after the cam got centered on the bearing it loosened right up and felt normal and I had no problem putting it in the rest of the way, when i went to pull it out again it was still tight in the same spot. Do I have an undersized cam bearing??? is that why it looks like someone tried to hone the bearings out? Will this be a problem even though when its in all the way it feels fine. what should I do about this?

I would measure the inner bearing diameter, check if within specs.

That would sure be the best way but if it spins fine when fully installed it will probably OK. Remember the bearings are nice and soft and the cam will seat them quickly with good lubrication. If they are too tight such that they cause heat and damage before the cam can seat and lubricate it's another story, but if it spins nice and free when positioned correctly I don't see that happening.

did the old cam show any odd wear around that cam bearing? if not then I would think ur OK. plus it spins freely when installed all the way, you'll be fine.
