How would the 228R react with a set of prc heads, either the 6.0's or the 5.3's, and 3.42's with a 6 speed? Is that doable, or would you need to up the gears? I've heard that cam is fine if its cam only/3.42's, but what about with the addition of heads? The 228R at times seems like the perfect DD, yet great power making and behaving cam.

When my 228 was my DD I was very happy with it. Now that it is just a nice weather/want to have fun car it works, but I could deal with a bigger cam, even with my 3.42s. I would not worry about heads causing any less driveability from this cam. If I got in the mood and had the time again to modify something I would put 4.10s in the rear just to help liven up the cam and make it happier, but I have had the 3.42s and the cam for several years now.

the 228r 114 in my car is great. im still having traction issues at the track i do need to change a few suspension parts to help me out. im hitting 12.1** with launghing issues and bad 60'times. around town driving is very well and on the freeway im still getting great MPG's around 21. you will not be dissapointed with this cam.

Is the 228R a good nitrous cam? Would it need to be on 114 LSA?

like philsc5vette said, the difference between both cams should be 10rwhp more top end for the 228r. i've lost some tq down low, 2000-2300rpm compared to the stock cam, but i do have more from 2500rpm and up. right where i launch my car on the street. so the tq lost at 2000rpm doesn't really affect me all. i drive 80% on the street and 20% at the 1/4 mile track, and for such duties i couldn't be happier.

here are a couple of videos of my car at idle (one in sig), and crusing around town, i have the 228r 112 lsa, so is lopey, yet, very driveable. i do have some surge on cold days, noticeable in 1st and 2nd at very low rpms (1000-1200rpm), but other than that, it drives very good as you can see on the following link

she's very docile at 40mph from 1st to 6th gear

Kinda depends on if you are gonna do heads eventually or not. If I was definitly gonna be cam only forever I would go tr230 but if I had plans for heads then i would go with the 228 as the tr230 is really setup to perform well with less than perfect intake flow and when you throw heads on there you take away the reverse splits advantage.

Im going to do heads eventually but when I do Im going to go with a totally different cam, this cam is just a have fun for the time being kinda thing, maybe to last a year or two. The mods I have are going to stay the same. So it sounds like the tr230 is going to be the one to go with. What lsa should I go with? Sorry to !

Id go with their 111 lsa. That seems like one of the best cams for cam-only set ups

I've had both a TR 224/224 112 and a Comp XER 228/228 114. Same overlap. The TR 224 was crisper in terms of throttle response.

nope, still on the stock 3.46's, the GTO M6 transmission has a taller 1st 2nd and 3rd gear though,
1st: 2.97
2nd: 2.07
3rd: 1.43
so our gearing helps a little, although, the car is heavier than a fbody. i know a guy (he post around here as you2slo) i've seen his car running 11.826 @ 114.83 1.61 60', he has a 00 Camaro SS with 228R cam, is an A4 with stall though, full exhaust, sticky tires, skinnies, etc, etc.
