Default TR224 vs TSP228r

Whats up, i am looking into getting a cam and would like to know which one is better out of the 2 for a daily driver. I want good power all around. I dont want my car to not be reliable and lose gas millage. To the people that have any of these cams, how much horsepower did you gain from this swap with full exhaust. Also, i am going to use my stock 3.42 gears. Any help is appreciated, Thanks.

I have a TR 224 and will be going bigger. With a 6-speed you can go much larger without worrying too much about MPG. I'd go quite a bit bigger if I were you.

I would also vote for the 228R seems like it makes better all around power out of the two. But,if i were in your position(i once was)i would look at getting some longtubes and an LS6 intake before the cam. Also, you could go bigger without sacrificing drivability, its all in the tune.

I have an ls6 intake waiting to be installed. i plan on getting longtubes, and having the lts, intake, and cam installed at harris speed works at the same time and also get it tuned.
Thanks for the replies, keep em coming

Here's my dyno sheet....I have all the aforementioned stuff.....LS6 intake, LT headers, blah blah....everything....with a TR224

This was on a really hot day and some lousy dyno weather.

There's more in it, I just haven't taken the time to take it back for more tuning.

It has good street manners, since the TR224 is a pretty small cam, oh, and mine is on a 112 LSA.

I did all the bolt ons and the TR224 and had 370 RWHP. I liked that way the car ran, but like everyone else I wanted a little more.

I went to the 228R (which is only 10 RWHP more than the TR224) and AFR heads and put down 425 RWHP 400 RWTQ.

If you do the math. I knew the 228R would give me 10 RWHP and that AFR heads gave me 45 RWHP. Going into the new set up, while I was doing the math, I was expecting 40 RWHP from the heads.

There is no great differant feeling ( SOTP) on 10 RWHP.

I do have some bucking/ surging with the 228R, but that is the tune not that cam.

I have a TQR V2 112 sitting on the shelf in my garage that is burning to go in the car. Im not sure if Ill do it.

Bottom line. there is about a 10 RWHP difference between the cams when you have all the bolt ons. You should not have much differance on gas milage with the exception of your going to get on the car more with the cam in it. that's why your gass milage will go down.

If you go with the TR224 on a 112, you will enjoy it.

In my sig is my car's idle with the 228R on a 114 and the AFR heads. There is another web site and I think it's called LS1sounds.com that has my car with the TR224 on a 114.

I want to get the 114 lsa. Do you guys have different rears. I would like to keep my stock clutch and rear if possible. Is there any 1/4 mile differences between the two.
Thanks

Oddly enough, My car felt a little quicker off the line with just the 224. Power was lower.

After the 228R and the heads, most of my power seemed above 3500 RPMs

I love the car with the 228R and the AFR heads since I had 3:90s installed.

Both of my cams were on 114. Go with the 112.

I am going with tsp's 233/239 112 lsa cam, I hope it not too much and also your car has the damn sewing machine sound to it, I really hope mine does make that noise but I guess its all part of having a cam!

Mods in sig 385rwhp 370 rwtq. Adding AFR 205 heads soon. Still need to have them milled. They are sitting in the dinning room now. Cam drives great. No loss of Gas Milage. I would go tr224. If I were to do a different cam, I would probably go with the Tony Mamo Recepe cam. I think it is a 224/228 cam.
