Default whats a good shift point for a 224/224 114 cam in a A4?

Im wondering if i may be going to high? I have my limiter set at 6600 and supposedly shifting around 6400. But I hit the limiter on 2-3 so i know its going to 6500+ on that shift.

also im going through the traps around 5900-6000 I think(ill have to check again)

im wondering if lowering my shifts to get them to balance the power so i cross the traps a little higher?
I only have 3.23's and a vig3600 also(other bolts ons)

im just wondering if going above 6400 is hurting my ET any?

i cant hook for crap on nittos(yes i need slicks) but she went 11.78@114.7 on a 1.65, and ive been 11.95@112 stock internal

FWIW:
with the setup I had in my SS, i was shifting the car at 6600 rpm with the rev limiter set at 6900 RPM. My setup was pretty identical to yours.
TR-224 Cam 114lsa
Minimal ls1 edit tuning
ST-3500 Converter
STock 3.23's

For some reason, my car never MPH'd very high but it did squeeze out an 11.86. Maybe some better weather and i could have squeezed another 1 mph outa the setup. Still ran strong for stock heads/gears IMO though.

Here is my 2 cents:

I think the shift points on an A4 car need to be at least 300 rpm below the Rev limiter.

The reason I say this is the engine will always accelerate faster than the PCM/tranny will keep up with the shifts. Set the shift points too close to the Rev limiter, and you can be assured you will tag the limiter on at least one of the automatic WOT shifts the car is making.

Thats why I am going to have my shift points programmed to 6,300 and my Rev limiter set at 6,600. Leaves a little buffer between shifts, and I don't think 6,600 is high enough to damage a stock LS1s bottom end for a very short period of time.

This is with a TR-220 (114), Stage 2 heads, FLPs with cats, WS6 intake, and an old Yank 2,800 converter

With a TR-224, maybe a shift at 6,400 and the Rev limiter at 6,700

Just my take on it,
Ron

tr 224 on 114 should be shifted at 6500 but it will hit the limiter but setting it at 6300 u wont even lose a tenth. u could always get edit and set the limiter to 7000.

Hey Harold...Congrats on the new best.

FWIW: I talked to Joe of JPR and he showed me a flow sheet of stock heads and anything over .510 lift is a waste of time. He took alot of time and showed me comparisons of stock to his Stage2 setup. Stock heads flow at best 240cfm.

BTW...With our cam the flow works out to 308cfm @ .550 lift. Which according to my calculations is an extra 148 horses at the flywheel

Can you say 11.2-10.9 NA.

My next purchase.

Later, Stu

I think im just gonna lower the shift points a little but and keep the limiter at 6600. I really dont feel any extra pull form 6300-6600 to make enough difference. I really dont want to rev above 6600 with the stock bottom end anyway

SSBoy: thanks for the info. I figure a set of 3.73's would really probably wake the car up in the powerband. But ill stick with the stockers for now
