TSB on Excessive Oil Consumption need advise
My husbands 2001 WS6 is having trouble with excessive oil consumption. It goes through 2 quarts of oil for every 1,000 miles. This topic https://ls1tech.com/ubb/ultimatebb.p...=006681#000001
mentions a TSB about this. It talks about replacing rings. Has anyone had this done?
Would replacing these rings make the engine “tighter” and therefore would you be losing power? It says to just replace 2 of the ring that come in the kit. Is that so you won’t be making the engine tighter and therefore no loss of power? Anyone have any info or opinions on this? Thank-you, Becky

Didn't work for me. I actually have higher consumption now, with my engine also needing to be rebuilt after 15k miles due to bad rings and apossible bad bearing.

Re: TSB on Excessive Oil Consumption need advise
It seems to me after reading many posts on a lot of different LS1 boards that the tolerances on some of these LS1's built had a lot of oil consumption and piston slap(sounds like knocking) problems. I would hit the dealer up for warranty work if that is an option. Also appears that the new replacements aren't having the same issues, or at least not the quantity.

Lady Redhawk, have dealer inspect bores for out of round(remove heads) if any bores read out this is cause for warranty short block replacement. I am a GM tech. Also dont play down the pcv oiling issue, put a oil seperator filter in your pcv line to intake manifold to keep all oil from being ingested.Good luck, stand your ground <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Re: TSB on Excessive Oil Consumption need advise
Thanks for your help. We took it into the dealer this morning and they are going to check it out. They are going to be looking at all the things that was posted here and on the other board. Hope it will be a simple fix. Will post what happens. Thanks again, Becky
