What is the material on the skirts and how is it beneficial? I noticed it when doing my rebuild but never really thought to ask.

If you had the tops of the 4032's ceramic coated, would that enable them to stand up to bigger shots of N2O?

I'm sure both are fine. My builder said he likes Mahle and JE. Mahle had a backlog at the time so we went with JE.

I too when with the Ebay package with Mahle pistons. My short block should be assembled pretty soon so I hope for the best. I will be spraying 200 at least maybe more.

Also used by most in the NHRA ....Mahle for sure have a proven history.

Just out of curiosity, why didn't you consider Wiseco? They are obviously top shelf.

Voted against the Diamonds, just put a set in and had all sorts of fun with the reluctor wheel and the #8 piston, big FU to Diamond. Apparently there is a special piston(which wasn't included with my set) for this issue. Thanks...

This was for a 4.00" stroke pistons set, other then that they look like top notch items. weight and measured identically. Mahle didn't make the piston CC I wanted, still wish I would have bought them instead.

Going with Mahle for my 347 LS carb build. Ive heard nothing but good thoughts about them for years now. If they can help my cuz BBC run low 9's with a crapload of nitrous, then they should be perfect for my set-up.

just a question but why do so many people compare what the certain brand does other then in a LSX and decide that they are good enough for your curtain build. Just because F1 teams use a certain brand of piston doesn't mean that you are getting the same piston they are useing. I have to believe that they are paying top dollar for the best they have to offer. You are not getting the same thing F1 teams are. Like stated before mahle makes pistons for OE applications and those fail to. Why doesn't anyone see that. I personally would base my decision on proven performance in the application i am currently pursueing. JMHO

Mahle pistons are more popular for LS1's.

I went mahle for the cost, coating, and perfect for my application. No nitrous. Thermal barrier, and dry moly coating (anti friction) on the skirts, and they balanced well.

Males in the aftermarket LSX world seem to traditionally be a 4032, whereas the diamonds are 2618's. Two totally different meterials for two different applications. 4032 is a weaker material that tends to crack when pushed too far. 2618 is stronger and will tend to deform some rather then crack when they fail. The tradeoff is the 2618s last maybe half as long as a 4032. 2618 isnt for a motor your building to get many years of performance from. Its for a hardcore build thats gonna put down big power on a power adder. In that regard the diamonds far exceed the mahle pistons.

For a moderate n/a build the mahle is your piston. For a big HP nitrous or boost motor 2618 is the only way to go in my opinion.

Mahles like the powerpak designs are decent cheap pistons but are definitely weaker than the Diamond 2618 pistons on average. The pistons in an F1 engine have nothing in common with these Mahle "powerpack" deals you guys are talking about at all but they are semi decent pistons if you don't plan in using much NOS. The Mahles tend to on average have much thinner ringlands than the other players like Wiseco, Diamond etc.

The only problems we usually seem to see Mahle piston customers having is in the wire locks not fitting due to large burrs on them. If you take those burrs off you will have no problems but I've seen some Mahle destruction from pins coming out where people just tried to force those round wire locks in without deburring them and disaster struck. Again most were the home built variety which have those problems anyway but still we've had to deburr every set of Mahle wire locks we've gotten and I won't sell them to a home builder anymore.

I didnt vote because its all personal preference and word of mouth.
Both pistons are great! And people use them for many different applications!
Go with the ones you feel most comfortable with!
