THe nice part about beating a dead dog is that it doesn't bark.

Wes

Wes, I don't think it's a fact of not being able to afford Craigs stuff it's justifying the cost.

I am shopping for a C5 but I won't go buy a new one for $50,000 when I can go to the local auction and pick up a low milage 2001 for $30,000. Does that mean I can't afford an 02 or 03? No it doesn't! It means I can't justify spending $50,000 on someting that will be worth $20,000 less in 2 years.

If you can afford to buy the most expensive parts and just buy them based on price then more power to ya. I can afford $3,000 for a set of GTP heads, but if another vendor offers the same quality product for $1,000 less... then you don'y have to be a rocket scientist to figure out who I would buy from. I also built my own car with my own two hands, the only things I haven't done is port the heads or set up the rear gears, I did it myself to be able to use my $$$ for other stuff, does that mean I can't afford to pay someone to install everything? No it doesn't. It just shows that I have more brains than money not the other way around like yourself.

People like you that treat vendors in this industry like they are gods or something are the reason we have to pay inflated prices for our parts. I understand that people have to eat and put a roof over their heads...but I think $3,000 for someone to port our stock heads is rediculous!

OK.. climbing down from my soap box

Chicago ZO6: I hope the next time you ask ANY kind of question about anything to do with cars someone punches you in your mouth. Maybe it will bring you back down to earth. Enough said about this post, it was simply for me to discern the differences, if any, in quality and price justification. Your whole post made ME sick! Are you telling me you have never asked how much something is? Would you not question someone if you put a Coca Cola on the counter at a gas station and it rang up twenty dollars? no, I guess you would just pay for it. After all, the owner is just 'trying to make a living.'
We all know both GTP and TEA build high quality heads, thats why I posted this question. I agree with most of the posts on this board for the reasons in differences in price. There are many different sides to it... experience, reputation, demand and results are a few. The last part in your post was extremely narrow-minded and I think YOU missed the point of the original question.
Something else that was too stupid to forgive is if everyone settled with a mustang or something they could afford on the snap, the entire 'project car' idea would be pretty damn boring. I bought my car with the intentions of modifying it knowing it would probably take me three to four years to afford to get it where I want it. It keeps the car fresh and fun. There is nothing more satisfying than looking in the store window at something you want and buying it with your saving's. If I saw it, bought it and threw it on I don't think I would even appreciate it. Just my opinion.

well i liked that comment and the gtp and mtis are definately way to high besides i think jason at mti has enough money he caters to people that dont know what a dip stick is but they want to go fast ill buy these heads because parts are parts on a stock set of heads and their is nothing wrong with cnc its a hell of a lot more consistant with hand ported heads the next set might be 15 cfm different i know ive seen it

i am not a head guru(that sounds nasty,lol-get it?)but if i had the money i go with GTP.i think what matters most is not peak hp output, but which head offers more flow on low to mid lift numbers.i mean, think about it...most cars spend more time in that area as to opposed to .550+. i know TEA offers good stuff but peak flow numbers dont impress me.i could be wrong but i think hand ported heads kill cnc ported heads on low to mid lift numbers.

Stage 1 TEA (CNC) and look at my mid lift flow numbers. If anything, TEA's peak stuff isn't that great compared to other shops. They have flowed a set of MMS stage 2 on their bench.

Besides, if it ain't on the same flow bench, it WILL vary.

Again, both are great heads. I am not built of money so I went with the best deal. Plus, I visited Brians shop and talked with Brian before having my heads done. I was fortunate to be able to do that.

Ever wonder about the hand ported heads when head porter is having a bad day at work...maybe because he's focused on a nasty thread on LS1tech.com about something stupid?

I have seen plenty of cam only cars and H/C cars from all different vendors get beat by a certin near Stock 01 Z28 "Demon" in South Fla who only has a lid, headers and a pulley but can still pull a 11 "which is for sale" Like someone posted before it also has to do with the Driver and what your total goals are .....
Just dont pressure yourself into buying something you dont want. Im sure you are like me and work hard for your money so treat yourself to what you want !!!
For me I ended up buying a used set of GTP heads and T1 cam for 1350.00 over 2 years ago the set up has close to 30k on the original 941's and I drive the car every day and beat the crap out it on a regular basis . If I had to do it again I would buy GTP's just because they have proven to hold up to my abuse and even some 7k rev limiter smacks when I had custom tunning and N20 but its all motor for now again and running stronger then ever Have fun on your quest for your heads

cobrakilla,
TEA stresses the importance of mid lift flow over peak flow numbers and they have some of the best mid lift flow numbers around.. Also their CNC program is copied from their killer hand port pattern. A computer controlled machine can simply port more heads faster and save you money.
