Default 408??? good motor??

anyone here running a 408 cid Iron block motor. I think I am about to get one and am wondering what sort of power levels people are seeing with this motor built NA. It should perform good should it not. Im talking about a fully built motor here also.
Thanks in advance

I'm not familar with the 408 all that much.

Who is doing the build will be very important as well as part selection.

Power will depend on what's done to the heads, cam supporting bolt on's like 1 7/8 headers, LS6 intake, ported TB and tuning.

Are you planning to use your supercharger on the 408? If so what compression?

If you provide more detail that would be helpful.

I would think 450rwhp or more would be reasonable in a M6 with a fairly mild cam NA.

If you do FI and have a 8.5 compression I'd think 600+ rwhp would be possible.

Do a search and you may find some posts I've read. I'm planning on a 408, too. The few I've read about are putting down high 4** hp and serious torque. I think it's a good, low cost motor that you could beat the hell out of. I would build a 422, but I like the budget thing. And, there is only so much power you can put down on the street (my kind of racing). Probably use a 250 shot for highway purposes. COME is going to sell a 4" crank for about 1k here soon, I'll start with that (already have the block). I don't like the extra 70lbs of the iron block, but a tubular K member will help offset the weight gain.

Well I am looking at this a couple of ways. The 408 from what I have researched is not cheaper. The only site that I can find which lists the 408 is Cartek and they list the long block at I believe it was 12,700.(I'm getting it cheaper than this though) I believe that ARE has a 422 motor cheaper than that.
I think I am going to build it for NA setup with maybe the possibility of adding NOS and probably selling the FI set up. I think that the weight of the iron block will be no more than what I have now with the SC so we will see. I haven't decided what cam to go with or what but it needs to be streetable and I want POWER . I guess that time will tell soon. I was just wondering if it was more of a HP motor or TQ motor. I quess this all depends too on the cam etc. Oh well someone tell me some good setup's I need to look at for maybe adding NOS. Thanks guys

Great work at great prices.

They have a 409 Solid Roller (owner is Shane, his name on here is XtraCajunSS). He was around 530 rhwp
