Default Oil pump swap help needed

I'm doing my head cam swap everything going really smooth I'm using ls1howto.com guide.

I need advice on dropping the oil pan 1/2" to swap a new oil pump I can only get the fron two bolts off any advice on getting to the other bolts does steering rack need to be pulled out?? Really don't want to do that.

Anyone have any tricks to swap oil pump?

You couldnt get an open end wrench in between the pan and the k-member to get those few bolts free?

That's what I did as well...

Also, don't forget that there are bolts running through the trans bell housing and into the back of the pan...

Is this in a camaro? Yes then, just use a gear wrench. Easy stuff, dont sweat it.

gear wrench works really well for 2 of the bolts ...

remember there are two larger bolts that go towards the front of the car, not up ... without taking those off it will not drop .... also remember to put something in there to stop the bolt from the pick-up tube from rolling in the oil pan .... i spent a good 2 hours trying to get the bolt out cuz it fell way to the bottom of the pan .... it was hell... i was worried i would have to drop tranny so that i could get the pan off

if in a f body no sweat in a y body the steering has to be removed no sweat really not a big problem. u should just have to loosen the first two bolts on each side and the pump should slide right off watch the little o-ring cause if u dont get it sealed off right u wont have any oil pressure and u dont wont to have go back in there and do it again just cause an stupid o-ring hope this was useful
