Car started making a tapping sound...need advice!

Car started making a tapping sound...need advice! On my way home from the track last night, my car started making a tapping noise, like you would hear from a bent pushrod. It started kinda faint then just got louder, wtf. I pulled over and listened, but could not make out which side it was coming from, sounded more from the manifold to me. I shut it off for a bit, then when I first started it, there is the loud tapping sound, then it got quite after a few seconds. Once I get the rev's up a bit (back on freeway), the loud tapping comes back again, from faint to loud. I'm just thinking the lifter might not be pumping up at higher revs. I think if it were a spring or pushrod, the noise would be continous all the time. What do you guy's think it could be?

Re: Car started making a tapping sound...need advice! I don't think it made any noise at the track but it's hard to tell with the cutout open and a helmet on. It definately sounds like a lifter/valvetrain problem, but the funny thing is, I let it get nice and hot in the driveway today, rev'd it to 2k for a while and no tapping noise. I need to take it out for a spin to see if it comes back. I double checked the spark plug wire's before I went to the track. There was no power loss or anything, car ran good, just that aweful loud tapping noise...

Re: Car started making a tapping sound...need advice! i noticed a reallly faint ticking from inside the car lately. i dont know if it was always there or if it just started. do you have a cam/stiffer springs? it almost sounds like when you leave a window open a little, like a whoooosh, but a tap sound, if that makes sense. sound like what you hear?

Re: Car started making a tapping sound...need advice! man, i'm going through the same problem right now.i tore the whole thing apart and cant find a damn thing wrong. so,i ordered new ifters,springs valves,pushrods and an agustino racing block. well....this was the only way i knew how to fix it.sorry i could not help.
