As far as the Timing Chain part of your question:

E-mail Darren at KB Engine Parts-Australia
kbengineparts@hotmail.com
Rollmaster/Jwis SINGLE Timing Set for less than $70 (total delivered to your door)
Comes with the German made Iwis Ketten single chain and the Australian made Rollmaster adjustable timing gears. This is "plug and play" and needs no shimming of the oil pump like the double chain does. Shimming the pump also means lowering your oil pan. 'Lots O Fun'
Jwis/Rollmaster is much better quality than your stock GM Timing Set.
They also sell the double chain set for a few more bucks. Just my opinion, but I think the double chain is overkill. The single chain got a bad rap because the POS factory single chain (made by Renold in England) has been known to break. And that may lead to catistrophic engine damage! Ooch!

Re: PORTED OIL PUMP, TIMING CHAIN
I see alot of people with these two items on H/C cars. Are they completely necessary? I'm going to a TEA S2 head and Thunder 230/224 cam early next year. Should I consider these parts vital? How hard is it to install these two items? Will I need any special tools? What the worst that could happen if I screw up? I don't want to screw anything up trying to prevent things from getting screwed up. Know whatta mean?

Well, if you are worried about screwing anything up, the least you can do is put on a new timing chain. That way you won't need to remove the crank gear (it will take a puller to get it off). Also, get the crank gear on wrong, and you will not have the crank to cam timed correctly togather. This can happen with adjustable crank gear sets.
Please...At least get a new chain. It must come off anyways when you remove the cam. The stock GM chain is prone to breakage and stretching. I would replace it with the Jwis single chain. Much much better quality.
Darren can get you just the chain for a very reasonable price. In fact, just as cheap as the stock chain. About 30 bucks.
BTW, if you are worried about screwing something up, I would think about maybe having a pro do your install, or at least get some help from someone thats "Been there..Done that"
Good luck,

Re: PORTED OIL PUMP, TIMING CHAIN
I think the IRL chain is a Jwis chain. Correct me if i'm wrong.
Sure you can install a Jwis chain on the stock timing gears, but I think most folks would still recommend changing the gears too if givin the choice.
