It flows stock what a ported LS6 does, just leave it alone.

Is there like a "highest oil PSI" contest on this site or something because everyone is so concerned with having 80 PSI which is way more than needed?

Mine's not ported, and it runs 55psi at idle with 10w30 warmed up all the way. It's usually 65ish cruising. 65-80 when cold.

Worry not. Throw that biotch in there.

Yeah thats how my ported LS6 is. If i ever take the engine out again and pull the cover I will put a Melling in there, they make good pumps.

thanks guys !

is there a way to prime the pump or make sure that it is filled with oil before startup ?
because i am not very sure it will start on first try or even second, due to a complete conversion in a different model car

thanks, jeejee

You can dump oil in it before you put it on and then hand crank the engine a bit to get a little oil primed, then when you crank it with the starter just unplug the ignition and injector fuses so the car doesnt start and the oil will prime.

Port it!!! Porting it alone will not do much to increase your oil pressure which is why when you buy a vendor ported pump it is usually shimmed (the bypass spring) as well. This is where most of the o/p increase comes from. That said, anytime you can smooth out the path that the oil flows through, you increase the quality of the oil making it to the critical parts of the motor. Those sharp edges at the in the oils path will cause turbulence in the oils path and could cause some air bubbles which is not good for the oil.

these pumps need no porting.

That makes no sense. How will edges all the way in the pump cause air bubbles when there is no air whatsoever anywhere near the oil pump that could displace the oil? The oil has to travel all the way through the pickup tube before it hit the pump, there is no air in there.

DO NOT listen to this guy.

The Melling pumps for the LS1 are great. They DO NOT need to be ported. Like Brad said, they come out of the box brand new & pump as much as a ported LS6 pump. Just leave it alone & put it on. You will be fine. There is no need to mess with it & possibly end up hurting something.

The Melling pump also can be ordered with 2 different spring rates also I believe. A local guy is building a new set-up for his Procharged T/A, he is also a member on here. He is gonna be right about 600 RWHP & he isn't porting his.
