I think for F-body's you can forget it. I think in an F-body it is pretty much impossible to even get the oil pan off with out raising the engine (i.e. unbolting the motor mounts some). Even if you could somehow get tho oil pan off with the engine still bolted down, there is no way you could get to ALL the rod bolts.
I think the C5 guys might have it better, there was a thread recently about replacing the rod bolts with the engine still in the car, from the responses, people appeared to believe it would be possible in a C5... No one had actually done it if I recall correctly <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> , but people seemed hopeful. jmX was one of the guys contemplating in in a C5.
Do a search and see if you can find the other thread.

Re: can my rod bolts handle 420 rwhp
I just had the oil pan off my f-body. It is a lot of work but it can be done. You must disconnect the engine mount throughbolts. To do this, the a/c compressor and alternator must be moved or removed. Then the engine can be jacked up using wood on the tranny. Next, you lower the cradle with another jack. To do this, you must loosen six bolts, the steering linkage, and the bottom of the shock absorbers. Now the oil pan slides right out and the windage tray is easily removed.
I wasn't down there to look at the rod bolts but I do not remember anything to prevent access to them.
