Default 116 lsa question?

On a 222-228 dur. Comp cam with x-er lobes.
Will this get rid of or decrease significantly missfire codes,tb drilling, surging etc.
Everyone seems to be going 110-112 range for the sound.
I could care less about the sound i'd rather sneak up <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> .
I realize it will move up the power-band but would be willing to make the sacrifice for better driveability.
To sum up,will it make that much of a difference or would i be wasting my time?

I think you will have a flatter powerband, but still make good power..

Good power but how about the idle characteristics and tuning issues,i assume the 116 lsa will help but how much?

Your idle should be great. This is a XE-R cam? If so you will be fine.. You will need tuning.. No getting around it.. So many people want to skimp on the tuning.. I can understand if you live a long way from a tuner..

If I remember my cam theory right, you should idle like a champ and make decent torque, but your peak HP should drop a touch and move down the tack a few RPM.

MTI use to sell a 221/221 116

To get the most from it, I would grind in 4 degrees of advance and be prepared to shift up around 6600.

The 116 LSA will not move up the power band --- it will widen it. Peak HP will be slightly lower, and at a slightly lower RPM, . However, it won't fall off as quickly after peak.

I know this is still a controversial subject, after zillions of posts. That's my opinion, & I'm sticking to it.

I had a GTP 232/232//116 a few years ago and it idled extremely well it sounded like a B1.

I'd for sure go +4.

Also consider 115 as well that stuff idles great.

I agree with the less peak / wider powerband statements. If you are running a power adder, you might like having less overlap.

No plans for a power adder,so it looks like i'll probably go with a 115 or 116 lsa with a 226 dur.

226/115 I'd probably go like +2 at least see what your shop reccomends. Stick or auto?

I wouldn't go too high on LSA with the XE-R lobes personally. You will likely see a hit in the 6000+ range as you will be reducing the overlap area. You will also see some hit in the mid-range unless you advance the cam. Advance will also hit the high end power. I'd recommend staying in the 221-222 range on duration and run a 112 or 114 LSA.

I read in a Hod Rod article that a Mallett car had a cam with 229/229 with .600" with 119 LDA. It was used on a 434cid with a Vortech SC and put 680HP to the wheels and 27.5mpg

Should idle close to a Z06. The cam that they have in thoes is on a 116. Id say go for it. If you go for the 115 consider the slp cam. Let us know how everything goes.

You'll increase idle vaccum by about 1"of Hg over a 114 or 2" of Hg over a 112, and favor the higher rpm. Build it out of a XE-R in the 224 range and you'll have a nice sleeper, or you could go with a 114 LSA cam and be pretty close.

I will not play with the power too much, it will flatten it out some and favor the high end. It's not the overlap that makes it work up top ( a 224/224 with 116 will have negative overlap @.050"lift) it's the intake closing point it closes the intake valve later.

Negative overlap? I don't get it. You either have overlap or you don't. Wouldn't negative overlap basically mean that your intake valve was still open when the exhaust valve started to move?
