Default T/B Butterfly(blade)

After installing the TR224 Cam I drilled the blade just 1/64 larger to get the IAC somewhere in the 30-50 range following the slowcar.ls1edit.com tuning guide.

I am almost positive the hole is was not drilled out too large but since the IAC is at 0 no matter how much I move the idle screw up or down the fact is I must have.

Is it possible to buy just the t/b blade? Does ANYONE on this or anyboard make them with the stock measurements? Freaking also stripped the Idle torque screw <img border="0" alt="[Banging Head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" /> . Hopefully I can just find one with similar threads at lowes or home depot.

If anyone knows someone that makes these blades please reply or email me.

Thanks

1/64 isn't much. Junk yard would have the screw. You can epoxy the hole shut with some JB weld and redrill it to the original size. Just make sure its clean, and countersink it a little before you put that stuff on there. Make sure that this is the problem before glueing.

Another thing to maybe check out. When I was adjusting mine out after my cam, I would sometimes open up autotap and it would read my IAC count fine, other times it would sit at zero and never change. I ended up getting the older windows version and it will pick up a few readings that the new windows versions are being fidgity about.

Also, FWIW. I installed a 224 xe-r 112lsa cam in my M6 car and drilled mine to either 7/32 or 15/64, can't remember exactly which one but it still has some idle surge and would probably benefit from another 1/64 bigger. I don't think your's is too big.

I've asked this question once before.......

Would you guys be interested in a Throttle Body idle hole "jet" kit?

Basically the kit will come with different jets that plug into the throttle blade that let you adjust this hole size to fine tune the idle. I was thinking of making it an option on my throttle bodies. You could go from stock to whatever size you need and still go back.

BTW... The stock hole is 4.2mm(.165") but I have seen them as big as .240" in different throttle bodies.

Just probing for interest.

First off most people have found 20-30IAC counts to be most suitable , but not all cars will respond perfectly to this range. I personally, and a few others here, have found my SS to respond better to 0 to +3. Don't ask me why , but that's the deal. After you get the new screw in place (install it with the torx head facing up this time and you will be greatful), get your IAC counts to around 20-30 in park with the car warmed up to operating temp. Opening the TB blade lowers the counts and closing it raises them. Then do an idle relearn on the car. I would keep the tool with you at all times until it's fine tuned. If it surges too bad open the blade a bit to try to stabilize it. You may or may not have enough room to play with for suitable adjustment. This will require custom tuning. Some things to play with if you have LS1 edit are: Base timing (26-28), raise idle (875-925) and adjusting AIC in park and AIC in gear temps help perfect the idle tuning. A guy named Shane on here identified the AIC temp in Park/Gear parameters.

AIC in park fixes warm start issues
AIC in gear fixes cold starts and surging issues.

If you happen to open your TB blade too much , it's possible to get a high idle code and AIC related code , but you can go back down with it. It just takes some tinkering and time for the computer to learn it.Good luck!

I hope this helps.

YES, I would be interested. Either that or some type of interchangable plates that would cover the holes with different diameters, or some kind of iris that would be adjustable.

txcamss
LunaticaTA and I did flip the idle screw around, but I had to put it back. I could not get the IAC count to anywhere above 30. Using EFILive we set the IAC at 30,35,40,45,50 and it ran great at all of these settings. At 50 it ran the best. The time advance at anything above 30 sat at 22.5 with no hunting. anything below 30 the timing was bounding between 19-22 or higher constantly.

I think that your suggestion at using an older version of windows is a good one, I will see about trying that also. I am also going to see if I can find a junk yard around here and see if I can snag a couple t/b blades and a new screw.

I just got an email (literally) from carputing saying they are waiting for some hardware and should be shipping it out by friday. We will be doing a bunch of changes then.

BTW what size is the throttle body hole now?

Have to measure it, not sure.
I am in Miami now for work for a conference. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
<img border="0" alt="[Fluffy]" title="" src="graemlins/fluffy.gif" />

Not positive but I think its at 13/64 or was below 13/64 I remember telling LunaticTA but can't remember what I told him, its the same size as his.

I ported the TB myself, not really a professional job, but its smooth now, much better then what it used to be. I am sure it can be done better. I am going to troll a junk yard around here and try and find 2 or 3 t/b's and possibly a few blades to experiment on.

btw here is the t/b after I ported and polished it. its actually even better now

t/b topic

I also cleaned the t/b blades edge up so it actually closes now, I noticed that before I did that the throttle would not actually touch the idle screw. Now it closes and does not stick.
