what to torque head studs to?
i just ordered a set of ARP head studs and was wondering what should i torque them down to?
do i still have to do it in steps ( like 35 ft/lb then 55 ft/lb then 75 )??
should i use loctite on the stud where it goes in the block? on the nut?
thanks

No loctite. Use the supplied moly lube for torquing. Most people prolly go about 35/50/65 or something like that. Depends on the application IMO. I won't tell you how high I went on mine, because it is higher than most would go. I would talk to an experienced builder for your specific application.

I didn't get any with mine. Will Pep boys have it or do I have to go to a machine shop?

Re: what to torque head studs to?
I torqued my ARP studs to 70lb-ft on the final pass, but went 15,30,45,60, and then 70 to get there. Make sure you use the supplied ARP moly lube. If you did not get any, just call ARP and they will send you some for free. It is very important to use their moly lube as the torque specs from ARP is based on the use of their lube.

Re: what to torque head studs to?
ok , are we talking about the stud itself and what to torque it in the block , or are these numbers for the nut that holds the head down??

Re: what to torque head studs to?
Direct from ARP:
1. Use a allen wrench or double nut to seat the studs into the block. Bottom them out and stop, do not apply any torque. Note that with mine and very well cleaned out holes, even with the lube on them, they turned hard every now and then, but you could def. tell when they were bottomed out.
2. Use the moly lube on the washers, threads and nuts when installing the nuts.
3. Torque to 65 ft-lbs for the main studs and 40 for the smaller studs
4. Loosen
5. Torque again to same amount
6. Loosen
7. Torque final time to the same amounts.
The triple-torque pre-stretches the studs.
