Default Please Advise - SDPC Rollmaster Timing Chain/Set

After reading about the timing chain stuff on here, I went ahead and ordered an SDPC Rollmaster double roller timing set.

With the engine still in the car, are there any concerns with installing this double roller set up?

Thanks for your help.

I don't think you'll have any issues. I'm doing the Rollermaster double chain as part of my buildup this winter, and plan on doing it w/motor in car (along w/heads, cam, oil pump, etc..)

I know with the double roller you have to remove the oil pump and put a shim under it (kit comes with shim).

I've also heard that if you plan on using an ASP Crank pulley you'll have to have some machine work done.

Do a search on the site for cam and oil pump installs. Some of the posts have really good links to instructions that while not just the timing chain, show what's involved.

But from what I've seen/read there aren't any issues to be aware of

Cant help you but was wondering which version of the timing chain everyone was purchasing: the regular or heat-treated torrington bearing one?

I installed Torrington version of this chain, no problems just remember to use aviation style sealer on spacer where oil feed hole meets block and pump. Just dont use rtv type sealer for this.
Chain is nice and tight when installed and i advanced cam 4*, perfect for my combo. <img border="0" alt="[Burnout]" title="" src="graemlins/burnout.gif" />

Any problems with the oil pickup tube lining up after the shims are installed under the oil pump? I don't want to do all this work and come to find out the pickup tube won't go in the oil pump. Thanks,

Paul J.

Good question, you do pull on it to secure to pump but i wouldnt call it a problem. I did drop bolt in pan when swapping chains. No big deal i removed oil level sender and used telescoping magnet to fish bolt out. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Thanks for the replys, please keep them coming.

As for which chain, I went with the SPDC heat treated double rolller for $85 like mentioned above. I should have said that in the first post.

Any issues with doing the double roller in the car?

I don't recall seeing a shim in my Rollmaster kit.

I just did the install a month ago and it is pretty straight forward. I also installed an asp pulley at the same time and did not machine the pulley. I have had the car dyno tuned and i have had it to the track and everything seems to be working great. Just make sure you use a piece of flexible wire on the pick up tube bolt so that you don't lose it. Here is the site I used http://ls1.fbody.com for help. Good Luck it is not as bad as you think.
