They probibly found it in the Taco Bell truck. Figured some Illegal was trying to take it home and put it in there car. And decided to throw it away. lol.
But on a seriouse note, if you end up scrapping it at a junk yard, be very carefull. Cause if there is a big industrial area close by they usually have something worked out with the Junk man. When ever they get curtian things in Like say an Aluminum block that is not all the way machined, They will tell the nearist company and you might get in trouble for having possesion of stolen property... It happens all the time here in Va. At the Shipyards and stuff. People will take home brass or stainless piping or zinc plates from the ships in Overhaul, and they end up getting in trouble for it.

excellent find! (i wish i could find something cool like that)
it sounds like you need to get up with the guy that makes lamps from cams and cranks, you'll have yourself a cool matching set.
i agree with crazylane, i was thinking the same thing as i was reading this thread, you DEFINATELY need to be very careful if you try to scrap it for mod money.

My Taco Bell sucks! The only thing I find behind my Taco Bell is some pissed off skinny cats and a homless guy named Phil! Sweet find! I would hand it upside down from my ceiling on a chain and stick recessed lights in the sleeves. That'd be cool!

Interesting
Had this article I saved out of a trade magazine, it caught my eye because it was an un-machined LSx block. Looks like this huge machining company has an office in ponitac, so maybe the block you found came through there?? not sure, but just a guess.

****.. who the hell would have a wife that would let you put that thing in the living room???
i can understand if you are single.. but... come on...
the only good idea i can think of for it.. is if you have a pool table.. flip the block upside down, put some lights into the cylinders and use it as a pool table light.. so long as you paint it accordingly.. and make it look decent..

Yeah and my best guess is that they found a problem in the block after they pressed in the sleeves, they wouldn't of taken the time ot take out the sleeves to melt it back down. It's probably a hairline crack that would show up in an x-ray process...
