Default 5.3 vs LS6 heads

What is the better head. I was thinking of swaping my LS1's out and had heard of guys running 5.3 heads. Are these better than LS6 heads, what are the pro's and con's. What about valve sizes and compression ratios. What kind of gains would I expect from each one?

I don't think there is an overall "better" head out of the pair...depends on application and the goals you have for the car.

I've ran both the LS6 heads and the 5.3's (current setup). Old numbers with the LS6's are in my sig. Haven't put it on the dyno yet for the new setup, but hope to soon.

Also depends on who you have setup the heads. Valve sizes can vary from stock up to larger (2.04/1.575) for example.

LS6 heads I believe retain stock CR, while 5.3s will net you a small increase in CR (10.75-10.8:1).

Properly setup, either head would serve you well and produce good gains.

There is no one best cam nor head. You have to match the two to get the performance you want.

in general
5.3 heads are great for "smaller" cams (>228)

In general, I'd use a 5.3L head only if you were trying to avoid flycutting- such as using a big cam would require.
