Default head bolt to stud swap?

I was wondering being i just got my studs today. from trey04gto and they came out of his 04 gto but my 04gto needs the 03 stlye

I don't have the money now after buying heads and these to get a new set of studs. i need my car done in a week so i can go see my son in michigan.

can i just buy stock bolts for now and just not spray it and swap them one at a time at a later date to studs without pulling the heads to change gaskets.

any help would be great.

thanks
mike

Default Stud Lengths

The studs/bolts for the '04-up are all the same length. It's the earlier heads that use the longer studs/bolts.

What year is your engine?

What he said.....you bought a set of 04 and up studs since that is what Trey has going by his user name....

Sell them and then do it right with the correct set of studs for your ride....

+1...get what you need and do it right...then you won't have to worry about it down the road.

You need the 04 and later studs. Pre 04 blocks take all 10 of the same size bolts, post 04 bolts take 8 long and 2 short.

this is from gm hightech mag

ARP sells this LS1 Pro-Series Head Stud Kit, PN 234-4316 ($372.83 suggested retail). It'll work for all LS1 and LS6 engines built through 2003; GM switched to all-same-depth bolt holes in 2004 so ARP has a separate part number for these later engines. Rated to 190,000 psi, the kit includes 12-point nuts but can also be had with hex-head nuts. There are a total of 10 8mm studs and 20 11mm studs; the stubbier 11mm studs (four in all) will install into the upper front and upper rear 11mm holes on each head surface. As to the 8mm studs, the GM service manual says to install the factory 8mm bolts using thread locking compound, so we'll use some on these too. As a side note, threadlocker is OK to use on all the ARP studs for a more permanent mounting, i.e., if you are taking heads on and off constantly on a race motor and don't want them threading

in my 1999 formula, i used the 134-3609 8 long 2 medium bolts. i'm using the same in a 6.0L motor right now.

don't know why your 2000 had all the same length. did you buy the car new? or used? maybe someone replaced the motor?

edit, saw you edited yours.

Even auto zone has 2 part#'s for head bolts for the 04.

So bad on me for not knowing. but hell i did not now. that seems like something ford would do.

put 2 diff engines in the same year car.

anyhow as soon as i hit 50 post they are going to the for sale section for 100 bucks

and in the meantime i am waiting for the big brown truck to bring the right one's

Thats what i am thinking. i sprayed the **** out of it before. prob 20 bottles at 150 before i tore it apart with stock heads and bolts.

i will be makeing more power with the heads but i just won't spray it till i get the studs.

i am going insane with out my car running.

is this the norm? do most peaple think non stop all day about how they can get the car running again.

it is all i can think about!!!!

damn i am scareing myself now.
