Default 427 MMS C5R Blocked Reliability Update

Since 9/13 have put on 4000 miles without any problems or SES lights.
Passed California emissions too!
Also great gas milage. 21 mpg on a yesterday's 250 mile daytrip!
For you guys afraid to build a daily driver big bore. Go for it!

Does this car have the C5R heads and a custom intake or just the C5R block?

Good news! Sounds like a much better solution than the bored out stock blocks that have been giving people so much trouble.

20 passes on Nitto 315DRs. Best is around 12.6 117mph with the ASR on. ASR cuts out the engine right after the 60ft, and starts up again. Will probably do 120mph with ET Streets with the ASR off. However on a freeway roll, I leave everyone like they were standing still with cars that I used to walk with my stock engine.

Can't ask for anything better than that! If GM were to build a 427ci sleeved motor, I'm sure they would use the C5R block. I just built mine as GM would have built it.

Great to hear everythings running good. You should be able to run low 11's with ET Streets, right?
OH, and pinch me I must be dreaming, my car should be done this Friday. Norris Motorsports installed everything in my sig.
I'll let you know how things are next week. I'm dying to see what my dyno #'s are gonna be.

You'll love it!
Don't ever give up the overdrive. There is so much torque in these engines, you can easily pass anyone with the converter locked using gentle throttle with no downshifting. I ran with some buds to Vegas, and they told me they couldn't keep up with their LS1 M6's without much downshifting especially climbing hills at high speeds and passing. All the way to Vegas I never had to stab it to downshift ! Unbelievable!
I'm sure it will do low 11's with a good 60 ft. I'm happy just spinning in the 12's cause I don't have a cage, and never will!

SLP LTs with SLP Y pipe with cats, and MMS custom tuning! I know the SLP is suppose to NOT pass visuals. But most techs just check for cats, and don't care what they are attached to.
I know it's really cool for a big bore stroker strip car to run 9's. I think it's equally cool for a big bore stroker street car to pass emissions! One built to go as fast as it can, and the other to run as clean as it can!

pedaltothemetal,

Yeah, I have no interest in a roll cage either. This car is just going to be street monster. I plan to take it to the track after break-in just once, a friend is letting me borrow some 15" ET Streets. I'll probably get kicked out after my 2nd low 11, MAYBE a 10 if I'm lucky

When you say you have the MMS 224 cam, does that mean it's a 224/224? Because I have the 244/244 in mine. I hope the idle will be nice and smooth.
Later,

Lyle

Yes that's the one. To be exact it is the:
MMS VERSION 3 of the 224/224 duration, .566" lift, 114LS.
This cam was chosen specifically to pass California emissions which it did. Yours will rev much higher and make much more power, but I can't have that in California and pass emissions. Wish I could though. Anyways torque is what makes it fun driving on the streets. Not sure how your idle will be. But the 224/224 I have idles just like stock. The exhaust rumble which will make you jump when I start it up is not though.

If not, out it comes and in with a smoother one. maybe since I have more cubes it will be smooth, I don't know. I'll find out in a few more days.

my 224/224 in my 382 stroker was almost a stock idle. VERY TAME. yours will be even tamer with the bigger cubes.

Personally I think you could have probably went with something like a 229/229 and still idled close to stock, but to each his own.

a BAD *** daily driver
