Default Offset Rods

The crank end and the pin end of the SBC rods are offset longitudinally from the center of the crank end, and more importantly, have a wider pin end.

The Gen 3 & 4 rods are centered with respect to crank end and pin end. These rods are called "on center" rods.

The piston pin offset is with respect to the major/minor thrust sides of the cylinder. This tends to lessen the wall loading, reducing piston rock (and resulting ring land wear issues and oil consumption) and quieten the piston noise.

Your concerns should center around adequate pin boss clearance with the SBC rods as well as the loading issues caused by using the offset rods.

Mahle makes a damn good piston (both in forged and in hypereutectic) and is OEM on a lot of European Cars and bikes.

Im not concerned about the quality of Mahle's in general. I am primarily concerned whether Mahle designs an offset to the pin boss in their pistons. Some companies do and some dont
