Default some advice on ls1 rebuild

ok, i got a cam and springs from TSP, i also have 150,000 miles on my engine.

i want to know how to rebuild the short block

and should i get new heads or just stick with my upgraded springs and OEM rockers?

i guess i need to re-ring my pistons? what about honing the walls??

what all do i need to replace in the bottem end?

thanks in advance for your replies,

if you are willing to task this yourself then go buy a book. Chiltons/Hanes are the choices that I know about. for performance questions there is a book " how to build high-performance Chevy LS1/LS6 v-8's" by Will Handzel. pertains more to modifing and tuning Gen III engines. hope this helps.....

Disassemble the motor, send block and crankshaft to machine shop for a cylinder hone with a torque plate, line hone, and crank check and polishing. Then have your internal parts balanced by the machine shop, then assemble the engine with your new parts. You will need new pistons, rings, rods, bearings, rod bolts, and main bolts.

Line up your costs before you do anything. You might find it cheaper to buy a short block than rebuild your own. Unless your doing all your own machining, the final costs might be more than what you can get a short block from a sponsor who knows lsx engines inside and out for.

thanks, i figured it might be cheaper to just get a new crate engine...

what do you think about this?

i wish i had the tools to do it myself.... maybe i should invest in some good tools.

Q. would re-ringing the pistons be worth while during a head change??

Talk to one of the sponsors on here about a shortblock. For less than $3k you can get a built shortblock with a brand new block, crank, forged H beam rods and pistons that'll handle close to 1000hp. There are still alot of machine shops out there that aren't familiar with LS1's who probably wouldn't charge any less than specialty shops like Texas Speed, Late Model Engines, Horsepower Engineering, Thunder Racing, etc would charge.

short block from sponsor is my answer. Problem with crate engine is you still have a weak link.
