Whats the biggest cam without doing heads?
The MMS 229v2.1 makes good power with stock heads and idles nice too.

I've heard both back to back on similar cars.
On a serious note, I would at least do the Rollmaster timing set if you do a new cam.
I've never been one to care about sound effects, so I don't know what will have the nasty lope your after...but the Hot Cam is a good starting point.

I seem to recall Fireball was running the MTI T2 cam on stock heads? (232/232)
Anyway, my vote goes for the MTI X1, FAStech F1, or the Thunder Racing 230/224. All 3 cams are basically the same...

MTI C1 cam here with stock heads. See sig for the rest of the mods and HP/TQ numbers. I will say that I really like this cam, nice lope but not to nasty.
How can I charge for the use of my avatar? Just joking.
Hey man, talk to different sponsors, tell them your needs, and get opinions from a select few. Then, make your own decision, based on the info provided. Good luck. Try Katech. That's where I got mine, and although I am not at liberty to discuss the exact specs, I will say that their custom cams get the job done!

Knowing what I just found out on the dyno, the GM Hotcam is a great cam for the money plus you get springs with it.Right now Im running the TR224/112lsa cam and it mirrored the hot cam for power.358hp and 353lb/ft tq with hot cam.361hp and 358lb/ft tq with tr224.Needs tuning and other bolt ons though.

Ask Jayson at MTI what cam he would run with stock heads for max performance.
My guess is something large on duration but short on lift with a narrow LSA and 4 degrees advance.
Maybe an X1 with a lift in the .540-560 range. Or if you plan on heads latter on down the road go ahead and get the X1.
