keep trying to get it with a pen magnet, if that doesnt work then drop the oil pan.

Did the same thing not too long ago. I got lucky after about 2 days I was able to grab it w/ a magnet. Goog luck , but if all else fails your gonna have to remove the pan.

it seems like i can move the pick up tube enough to get under it. Is this most likely the area it is in?

Hard to tell, like everyone said, keep trying with the pen magnet. Good luck.

could anyone that has a ls1 oil pan off take a pic and post it for me so i can get a image of what is in there. i hate to pull the engine over this stupid move but it looks like it may come to that.

I can't drop the pan with it in the car.

thanks

well this is what i came up with. **** it. it can ride around in the oil pan for a while. the pick up tube is screened i will just use a new bolt. and with the baffles there is no way it can get up into the crank or cylenders.

hopefully a oil change or 2 she will come out the drain hole.

not a good idea at all, if that bolt flys up into the rotating assembly you will be looking for a new shortblock.

you might be able to drop the pan a little to get a magnet in there.

you can pull the pan while in the car. That will be much better than pulling the engine for a rebuild. I dont know if it will come out the drain or not.. is it that small?

Anyway. Just remove all the oil pan bolts and the 2 bottom trans bolts(auto, dont know about m6) and then remove the bolts from the motor mounts wile supporting the front pulley with a jack... I would also put a jack on the trans pan.. Then you can lift the motor a little to get it out. Doesnt take a lot. I have not done this but have read about it.

I would fish a litttle more but if you cant get it i would go this way. Maybe look up some more info on how to do it. I read supporting the motor w/ the front pully will not hurt it.

You could try a real beefy magnet and drag it along the bottom of the outside of the pan to see if it will catch the bolt, then drag it toward the drain hole and fish out with a pen magnet.

damn i got that bolt. all i can say is holy **** do not ever drop that bolt.

I unbolted the engine mounts and jacked it up as far as i could then dropped the pan as far as it would go. I had it once about 5 hrs ago. but then lost it.

so in the end not takeing 2 minutes to wire the bolt cost me 2 days and 1 day off work

now it was worth takeing the day off work.

and also i found the pick up tube has NO screen.

Congrats, I have done the same and it took me 2 days like I said. I'm glad you decided to keep fishin rather than leaving it in there.

no way man. my car is a 04 gto front sump pan.

The only way to get the pan out is with the engine out.

she is done just waiting on a intake.
