Default Pushrod length question.

I'm installing a TR224 on 112 and ported heads on a 01 Camaro. The heads were milled .025 and cc at 62cc.Head gasket is a cometic .054 held in place by ARP studs.

Will I be ok with the stock lenth pushrods (7.40)or go with the shorter ones (7.35)????

Thanks

Every thunderracing cam is ment to work with stock pushrods. With that thought, everything u take outa yer heads you have to take out of your pushrods. I would start doing that after .030 off the decks. you are only going .025 .. . Stick with stock length pushrods Chromemoly, www.thunderracing.com

The TR cams have a .030 smaller base circle, so if the heads were milled .030 you would be back to the stock pre-load right? In that case, 7.400 would be just right..

Check the preload! Don't estimate it. I only shaved 0.015" for use with my XE-R 224/228 and I was at 0.080" of preload with stock pushrods. Comp recommends ~0.030" of preload. I ended up going to 7.350".

Tim...

I can't understand why Comp Cams would recommend any lifter preload other than what GM recommends for stock GM lifters.

Now, use a set of Comp Cams lifters, and I can understand them recommending possibly something other than a stock preload.

Why would Comp Cams know whats better than GM for stock GM lifters?

I figured I'd be OK.Just checking since I have no valvetrain noise now with the stock Heads that maybe I should get them shorter for the Shaved Heads.

For a totally stock valvetrain GM may know best but GM as you know doesn't do anything with the aftermarket in mind. A stock engine is redlined at 6200... at those RPMs lifter pump up is not a high risk. At 6800-7000 the risk becomes greater. A lifter can pumpup with as much preload as it has. So "if" a lifter were to pumpup all the way your valves would be hanging open my your preload amount. Obviously this is a bad situation. Is it likely to happen? Probably not... but why not reduce the chance of problems when it is so easy to do.

GM put a 10-bolt in the car... obviously they know best right?!
