OK the life long question "what cam" (long)
This time a better idler would be nice. I do LIKE the hotcam i have! Just time for more lift with the new heads going in. Heads are ported from a local shop. I can get full flow #'s if really needed to help in the decision process. I also have ls1edit so tuning is def. possible. I have about every bolt on EXCEPT- MAF and LS6 intake wich will soon come. Only on stock screened maf becuse tuning was easier that way.
I'm running 4.30 gears with a 26" ET street. AND do alot of street racing so mid rage power is a must! I dont want to spin much past 6600 if at all possible (try to last on the stock 346 as long as i can). Lets see what else do you need to know. Oh yea heads... Lets see i guess you would call it a stage 1 port? Manley valves 2.02 and 1.56 (i think its 1.56) the largest i can go in stock seats according to manley. The flow # i remember was 280.x at .600 lift. His first set of ls1 heads so i'm happy with that and he was careful not to "hog" them out so we stopped there. I didnt deck the heads (should I?) and am running the SDPC springs (good to .600 lift, with titanium retainers). N20 will be way in the future if i do spray so i guess it could be a factor.
Any other info you need to help me just ask and ill do what i can. So what do you think i should do about a cam. I was thinking something in the .560 lift range. and maby like the C1 or TR 224. I dont know they are pretty comon but proven i guess. Any off the wall stuf that really works? Thanks for your time.
+++to sum it up
+good daily driver (my only car beside our family ride)
+6600 RPM max
+decent idle
+more lift that what i got to help the heads out
+Street racing car with monthly track visits
+less valve train noise would be a plus
+am i asking for to much yet? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
+oh yea and cant forget lots of POWER Midrange on up!

Tim I really like thunders 227/224 and from what I read it idles the same as a 224.
On your heads if you havnt bought the valves yet the Ferreas flow better than the manley's
Good luck

Yea the valves and all all already paid for. I'm just going for low buck build up. Always buy when there is a deal... As far as manley and ferreas I may be mistaken but isnt the only diffrence the back cut on the valves? If so mine have been worked.
BTW sounds like a good cam ill have to look it up! I've done hours of searching but you can only read so much and there is still so many questions...

A 224/224 114 +2 or +4 would do well.
A 220/220 114 -1 (i.e. retard 1 degree) will idle like a champ and be biased for good power in the 4000 - 6200 range.

IMO, By far, if you want a cam that has no compromises drivability (like your mom could hop in and drive to the store), yet don't want to give up more than a few peak hp, the TR227/224 cam on a 114lsa is your best bet for a 6 speed car.
I've had 8 cams now (B1 and TR224 included in that list) and I've finally found the cam I'll grow old with. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" />

What are the drivability issue between the 230/334 and the 227/224 I have been looking alot at the dyno diffrences and all. Looks like about the same exept way up to. So its kind of like why not get 230 over 227 when your getting all the same except maby a slight edge on topend. I might not use it but will it hurt to have it? Unless the 230 is a crappy daily driver...

230/224 111lsa = smelly lopey powerful mean cam
227/224 114lsa = clean, nice idling better driver cam, little less power.
The difference between those two cams is huge IMO. All the extra overlap of the bigger one is just going to make it more obnoxious, but more powerful.

Quick Question:
Will TR227/224 114 LSA pass emmisions in Illinois ? Is this the meanest cam out there that complies with emmisions ? What kind of HP gain am I expecting on a 6-speed 2001 SS with 325 rwhp (intake and exhaust mods only) ?
Thanks for your replies....

Well, I know the smell isnt a good way to judge emissions, but I still have the stock cats and I could sit behind my car while it idles and have a good long conversation with somebody and not have either of us smell like gasoline afterwards if that means anything.
If you left cats in, got it tuned right, I'm fairly sure it'd pass. <shrug> No emissions in my city.
