Default Balancer removal Question

What tool are you guys using to remove the balancer? My friend has a removal tool, but Its for old school small blocks and requires threading bolts into the three bolt holes for the crank pulley. I found a three jaw regular pulley puller at the store, would that work? If it does they have a smaller one and a big one, whitch one should I use? I dont want to buy or use the wrong tool and screw things all up. Sorry for all the questions, first time taking a LS1 apart. Thanks.

Get the big one with the longer jaws and the longer bolt.

I used a two arm puller, turned the two arms 180° and pulled on the inner ring, if you use a 3arm puller you gonna pull on the outer ring, if you do this you might gonna pull off the outer ring and then you can throw your balancer into the trash...

There are tools that are designed for GM/Chrysler balancer/pully. It is configured as like a 3 jaw except that it has some rods that insert into the crank bolt hole and bottoms out, as you turn the screw it pushes agains the rod and not on the crank end and threads.. I used a Snap-On one and it worked great. But I would figure that other tool manufactors also make the specfic GM/Chrylser one but cheaper in cost.

I personally would not pull it from the outer right, as the pully area is not the strong and could bend or break.. as alway.. take the time to use the right tool and you will not experience any fustration and broken parts..

The one I got looks the same, but only cost me $20.00. Finally got the balancer off too.
