TR224 plus STOCK stall?
#23
i've always heard that ppl with 224's loved them becuase of their streetablity, but they always had gears and stalls to help it out, i just wondered if they had done the stock stuff first then get the other stuff later and if it was able to be driven. when i had my ms4 it was a bitch becuase it was overcammed for what i had, stock everything. i dont have enough money to do both the stall and gears at the same time so i decammed and actually liked it's lower end power. and now that i know i can do the 224 and keep the other stuff stock for a while i really felt better about going smaller

I think the stalls and gears are more required to get the cam into its powerband quicker. I really did have no problem with my stock stall after the tune. I put the 3200 stall in because it was half price used and my friends kept telling me I needed a stall to be fast...

The TR224 is the cam that Thunder recommended for me when I called and asked them which cam they recommended for my '98 Trans Am A4 w/ 3.23 gears and I told them I would be keeping the stock stall.
Anyone else have any other cam recommendations for us A4 guys wanting to keep the stock stall converter and not have any driveability issues? I know a 224 cam is pushing it on the stock stall. Any other recommendations for a little bit smaller cam? Thanks in advance.

I drove on a stock converter and a TSP 231/237 112 for a year. I made some tuning modifications that helped, but it was driveable. Car did have 3.73's in it also. I think a 224 would have been fine on the stock converter.
Just my experience, it wasn't a 60ft monster by any stretch of the imagination.

Part of your decision has to be the shape of your desired powerband. A stock stall gives you no bottom end and nasty dead spots on the upshifts.
