Default Thoughts on this shortblock

shortblock part # IRS-421-LS1S

Any thoughts/feedback good or bad is appreciated.

The price is hands down one of the best. The oil pump could use porting and the timing chain should prally be an SLP double roller. Anyone actually use this block?

As far as the parts go you shouldnt have a problem. Rods and pistons are really the best out there. Not sure who's crank it is. Might want to ask them about it. Someone else will have to speak up for their machine work though since Ive never dealt with them.

I just called and spoke with someone and I was told that the timing chain is a double roller and that the pistons can be setup for any applications. They simply send JE the specs and then JE sends whatever dish or relief you need. He also said that this block uses the 30 over bore with the 4.125 crank so the actual cubes are 421.980045795 (close enough for me).

The person I spoke with (didn't get his name) was very knowledgeable and willing to answer any questions.

I have read somewhere else on this forum that the cranks basically all come from the same place then each vendor does their "thing" with them. If someone could post a link to that thread, that'd be awesome.

Anyone else?

That is not true there are many crank companies that make there very own cranks.

I'd think they were using the Cola cranks. Since they are listed right above the shortblocks.

i would think that as well. sounds like a dedcent price, that 409 sounds grreat with a 200-250 shot it should fly.
