I just got mine from a GM performance dealer cam, springs, whole pack of new retainers and everything execpt gasket for $480. Find another cam that will make almost 400 RWHP and sound as awesome as the ASA for under $500

 

Hotcam Kit and ASA w/LS6 springs are virtually the same Price.
Yes I agree that there are better cams available but not every one is looking for peak power. This Cam gives great power under the curve and does not require a valvespring change every 20-25,000 miles.

 

Im kinda bent on the fence as well, i have chosen to go with the Hotcam just because. Now, Once you install this cam and i know tuning is always nessicary but is it drivable from the git go unlike a big cam that keeps stalling out?

 

that 110 LSA is what keeps me on the fence about this cam... need a good tuner to make this thing worth while.. the 112 LSA with an M6 i would say is more "driveable from the git go" as you put it.. i would doubt the ASA on 110 is driveable from the git go with no tuning..(stock PCM tune)

plus the ASA is a lot more duration than the Hot cam.. this thing is 226-236 and the hot cam is 218-228

 

So can i slap a hotcam in and go?

 

if you have an m6 yes. i ran mine for a week with no problems, the cam will buck if you stay in gear below 1500 rpm. I made 378 to the wheels with ls6 intake and 243 heads. Im looking for something bigger and from what i hear the asa cam makes really good power and torque under the power curve and is good on springs.

 

Would the Hotcam be good with AFR205's?

 

Thats a tiny cam for those heads, if your spending that kind of coin on heads you need to get a cam to take advantage of them.

 

That all sounds good with the ASA. I think that's what I'll go with, but what about average gas milage. I understand you can't have it all and I don't drive mine everyday but I don't want to be stopping at every gas station either. I know a lot of u guys are against loudmouths but does the ASA make
em sound any better?

hotcam is junk...stay away from that.

consider the TR224@114...mild cam that pulls hard. idles nice and smooth like stock.

 

What kills the ASA cam itself IMO is the $380 price. That puts you in a custom cam of your choice.

 

everyone has their opion on what to buy. personally i wouldnt put a cam in an fbody/vette smaller than a 224. 224 cams will idle fine, will not wear out springs and will make better power than hot cam asa. i do mean better power throughout the curve. my personaly choice for my car was 232/232 600/600 114. havent had any spring issues, drives fine on the street. i have several friends who have cams in the mid to low 230's and have problems.

i was on the fence about the ASA cam for a while too, but when I added it all up, a cam kit from TSP was only like $100 more in the end despite the spring price difference, and the performance is better with the custom cam I got. I'm happy.

This doesn't include pushrods which isn't needed, and a new timing chain, which should be included, but doesn't add much to the price regardless.
