Default 382 small bore or big bore?

Ok, I've beat this issue into the ground but I want to make sure before I start an engine buildup and spend a ton of $$$. I was looking to build a 422 but the price might be out of my range so the next best choice is the 382.

Hate to sound ignorant, but I can't get a clear answer from anybody around: do I have to upgrade to a stage III head setup if I go with the small bore?!? I know head mods will be on order for the big bore....

Finally,

What kind of hp numbers are you guys with 382's putting down? I'm definately going to run a DP fogger in the future
for my goal of low low 10's. I've finally got the 12 bolt to handle the power, now it's time to build a real engine

Let me know what you guys think!
Thanks

on your small bore motor, anything bigger than a 2.050 - 2.060 intake valve won't really show you an improvement. I would recommend a stageII head, and maybe a little hand work in the runners to get the max flow out of them. Anybody's CNC heads will make decent numbers, and can be improved a little with hadditional handwork.

Have you seen recent posts concerning Darton re-sleeved blocks? I'm not sure what kind of budget you're on, but the re-sleeved block is about half the price of a C5R block.

I just ordered an All Bore 393 from ARE. Give them a call and ask for Wade. He will explain everything to you and answer all your questions.

You do not have to upgrade to a stage 3 head. The chamber will have to be enlarged to match the bore.

I'm still looking into what cam to get. I do plan to spray the hell out of it, after I get it dialed in NA. I'm getting the all bore now, because of the $$ issue, but also because now I can upgrade the pistons rod and crank later down the road, and get the 422 or 436. Give Wade a call. Good luck.

Ok, I just got some info on the Lunati 382 stroker setup. The pistons included in the kit are 8cc dish...what kind of compression ratio would I get with my cartek stage II ls1 heads (The current comp ratio is about 10.8:1)?

Does anybody know if MTI, agostino, or cartek use the lunati kit for their strokers? I've heard good things but I was wondering if the "big name" reputable companies used them as well.

Thanks for all your help!

We use ROSS pistons with Lunati rods and cranks, a custom kit with thick ringlands for heavy abuse. Lately we have been using Callies and Cola cranks...

Our All-Bore 385 motors seem to make 15-20rwhp more than our stroker 382's, I think its unshrounding the valves and letting the heads flow to their full potential...

Dave,

How much would you guys sell an all bore 382 balanced (pistons hung) rotating assembly and machined block? I've talked to some people and they think that this is the way I should go...

Thanks,
Conrad

Fast:

Check out ARE's website or post in the sponsors section. They have 10% off right now on motors so an assembled motor would probably be better then doing it yourself and just as cost effective.

Price is about $5130, that is minus heads.
